Editor's Corner
Bayfield and area was crowded with summer
visitors during the past weekend. Merchants
reported the best ever 24th of May Holiday
sales. Local restaurants and dining lounges
also were happily tired after it was over.

When one realizes that there are at least
six major camping grounds in the immediate
area and within a couple miles of Bayfield,
to say nothing of the many cottagers, it is
no mystery where the people could come from.
When one reads about the recent wild week-
ends that sorne resort areas have experienced,
the Bayfield area comes out smelling like a
rose. Let's hope that it stays the plea-
sant and enjoyable place it is. It is all
up to the people who live here and who visit
here to do their part to see that this happy
environment continues for all concerned.
THE BAYFIELD AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY
The Bayfield Agricultural Society met on
May 20th in the Municipal Building to discuss
plans for the coming Fair.
The Prize Books were on hand and members were
asked to try to deliver as many as possible,
due to the high rate of postage. The Trea-
surer reported that a loan had been obtained
from the Bank to see the Society through
until the Grants are received...some dona-
tions had also been received.
A work party will be arranged to repair half
of the Poultry House Shed...the material is on
hand...The problem of proper fencing of the
Fairgrounds was discussed and a committee
appointed to look into this matter. It was
thought that the Village Council should be
advised of this problem along with the Rec-
reation Committee.
Some type of special entertainment will be
provided for the Saturday afternoon along with
the usual livestock shows. The admission was
set as $1 Friday evening (Bingo and Exhibits)
and $2 for Saturday afternoon. Public school
pupils are free.
Dates for the Fair are Friday, August 27 and
Saturday, August 28.

HURON CENTENNIAL SCHOOL BRIEFS
On May 4th the Grade 8 Class of. Huron Centennial
School journeyed to Ottawa and returned home
early in the morning on May 7. About 55 stu-
dents and 4 teachers made the trip. While in
Ottawa the students learned about their Capital
City and visited the Parliament Buildings.
They stayed at the Holiday Inn and enjoyed the
swimming pool most of all. The students raised
their own money for the trip through different
projects and paid the balance out of their own
pocket, or perhaps more correctly, out of their
parents' pocket.
