Editor's Corner
Welcome to our boating, cottage, and camping
friends. It's that time of year to hoist the
main sail, clean the cupboards, and pitch the
tent. After those January blows it sure is
nice to see the sail boats glide peacefully
over the blue within easy eyesight of Bay-
field harbour. I don't own a boat but it
is not hard to be on board in spirit.
Nor is it hard to appreciate the peaceful
yet wild beauty of the many campsites that
surround the Village, or gaze at the set-
ting sun from a piotaresque cottage along
the shoreline,
We are in one of the most beautiful parts
of the world and this beauty is ours to
respect and enjoy.

24 is Victoria Day when we celebrate
birthday of Queen Victoria, the long-
rui ng monarch England has ever had.
England has played a vital role in Canada's
history and- contributed much to ou: c.aitUra1
heritage. This holiday gives us a chance to
reflect on the positive contribution England
has made to our Canadian way of life.
The nations who founded our country were not
perfect by any means, nor are we, but we have
a lot for which to be grateful. Victoria Day
reminds us where many of our ancesters and
their traditions came from. So a toast to
England and its many good and gutsy people,
past and present.
When we reflect on the good things we enjoy
in Canada we cannot but be chilled to the bone
by the haunting reality of the nuclear arms
race especially between the United States
and the Soviet Union.
Naturally it is unrealistic that one side
should reduce or destroy its nuclear a^sental
without an equivalent reduction on the part
o`.' the other side. However every sane person
on this planet shouldpressure their political
leaders for a halt to this mad arms race that
can only lead to the end of I fe on this
earth. A thought that most normal people hate
to contemplate.
Surely an international inspection could be
set up by the United Nations with the neces-
sary freedom and power and with the technical
monitoring expertise to insure that agree-
ments in arms reductions were tieing kept by
the parties concerned.
This mad march toward global suicide is just
that, sheer madness. If politicians on the
national and international scene are looking
for a goal in their political careers, surely
it could be to do their part to establish the
atmosphere and climate that will lead to a
speedy and sincere reduction in nuclear arms.
It is only a matter of time before the man
with a gun uses it. It is only a matter of
time before the nation with an atomic weapon
fires it.
