FROM THE Pastor's Desk
FAEEDUNI OF CONSCIENCE
There is no area of life that is so personal
and intimate, and therefore, should be so free,
as one's relationship with oneself, and one's
relationship with God.
The domain of conscience is out of bounds to
911 other people. gran is free. Each man is
responsible for his actions to himself and to
God.
Any forcefu]. intrusion by a third party, whether
it be a person or an organization, into the per-
sonal realm of conscience is a flagrant viola-
tion of an individual's right to privacy and
self-determination.
There is only one person to whom we must
render an account of our life and that person
is God. If we can satisfy Him, there is nothing
to worry about.
We do not check in at death with any human being
only God.
only God can read hearts, therefore no one has
the remotest right to tell any given individual
that he or she is living in sin.
We go to the medical doctor for medical advice,
not orders. He can strongly recommend that we
stop smoking and warn us of the dangers if we
don't, but the final decision to stop or not
must be our own.
Ne go to the lawyer for legal advice, not
commands. He can give us the legal implications
of our plans or actions, but the final decisions
must be our own.
Likewise the purpose of the priest or minister
is to advise us on the possible moral involve-
ment of our actions, to point out Christian
principles that will help us make our own de-
cisions that will be consistent with a sincere
friendly relationship with Christ.
Every man and woman is captain of his or her
own ship. Others can help navigate. But only
the captain is ultimately responsible for all
that happens.
Each man is responsible for his own actions,
and his own fate before God.
