The Bayfield Post, 1981-12-03, Page 1The Bayfield Post "THE VOICE OF THE PEOPLE" ISSUE A-11 Editor's Corner Another big name on the Hollywood scene is no longer with us. Natalie Wood, a classy actress is dead. She was predeceased by another class actor in the person of William Holden who died a couple of weeks ago. Both were artists with extraordinary talent and personality. Those of us who grew up and lived during the careers of these two fine film stars feel saddened and empty at their passing. The good indeed seem to die young. * * * Delegates at the Ontario Liberal Conference in Toronto over the weekend had sone sting- ing criticism of the Federal Liberals and their budget. They described the new budget as one that will increase taxes, fail to reduce inflation, stifle investment, and one that will discourage the creation of new jobs. Although such forthright public criticism shows that the Liberal Party is shredded and divided by inner conflict, it also QMOINOW shows that some Liberals are not going to lay down andplay dead becauoe yr yne tiwo- faced, forked -tongue policies of their federal colleagues. Canadians can at least respect a divided Liberal Party because it shows that at least some Liberals are honest and are willing to call it like it is. • * * - There are rumors Mr. Trudeau wants to retire soon. The Prime Minister knows he is on a sinking ship. If an election were called today, the Liberals wouldn't have a snowball's chance in you -know -where. And rightly so. When it comes to turns and twists Peggy Fleming appears paralysed by comparison. What the Canadian public wants is a little honesty, a little realism and a little wis- dom. Too big an order? Let's hope not. * * * This is Santa Claus time. For others it's Christmas time. The latter has always seemed more appropriate. "Santa; if we want to admit it, is a creation of business to promote sales. Nothing terribly wrong with that, except that when taken to extremes Santa Claus becomes the dominant personality in the minds of kids when they think about Christmas. The Person who gives meaning to Christmas and who should come to mind when kids think about it is Christ. I'm afraid such is not generally Big money is backing Santa. The Galilee doesn't stand a chance. wants a Santa who says, "Blessed in spirit." * * * the case.
