The Bayfield Post, 1981-10-08, Page 3FROM THE Pastor's Desk THANKSGIVING ACTS 20:35 - There is more happiness in giving than in receiving. Only a few generous spirited souls fully understand the truth contained in the above text. Such people know that true happiness is only contained in a person who is capable of sharing and giving. To share joyfully and generously is a sign of true thankfulness and life. Clasping selfishly, on the other hand, is a source of misery and an indication of spiritual death. An illustration from nature will serve to demonstrate this principle. In Israel, the two largest bodies of water are the Sea of Galilee and the Dead Sea. The Jordan River flows into the Sea of Galilee from the north and there continues its southward flow to the Dead Sea. This constant flowing in and flowing out is a source of abundant life in and around the Sea of Galilee. However, when the river empties itself into the Dead Sea it is trapped as there is no outflow of water. It is this factor which makes the Dead Sea dead: God's blessings will only be a source of happiness and life if we alloy them to flow through us to others, especially those far less fortunate than we. To take God's gifts and use them selfishly will be a source of unhappiness andgrief not only for ourselves but for others. It is indeed 'more blessed to give than to receive.' Harpy Thanksgiving Rev. J. hanahan HURON CENTENNIAL SCHOOL BRIEFS FORECAST: SCHOOLDAYS, HARVEST MOONS. Grade 8's Go Tripping Two of the coldest days so far this Fall, Mon- day and Tuesday of last week, Grade 8B went to Camp Sylvan near Arkona. Actually, it was fun. The purpose of the trip was part of the "Grade 8 Outdoor Ed. Program." We played games -nd observed nature and 4 slept in the original Conestoga Wagons, and nearly froze to death. I saw some of the girls in my wagon wearing winter toques to bed. We also went to a camp near Camp Sylvan, called Rock Glenito hunt for fossils (and get wet). There were two water -falls there; one was thirty feet high and the other only four feet. A few of us stood in front of the 30 foot falls which were flowing quite rapidly, and climbed to the spot where the four foot falls originated. Monday night we stayed up until 11:30 p.m. and nattered until past midnight. After stay- ing up late we had to get up early in time for breakfast at 8:00 a.m. Uur cook, Monica, cooked up some delicious dishes for us. We left the school accompanied by our principal, rr. Mathers, and two Grade 8 teach- ers , Mrs. Moffat and Mr. Snell, arriving at Rock Glen about 10:3.0 a.m, and to Camp Sylvan at noon, in time for lunch. We left Camp on Tues. at 1:50 arriving at school around 2:50 p.m. and then on to home to sleep in our own beds (which, by the way, were much warmer than the wagons). A Switch Last Friday On the day of Friday, Oct. 2nd, teachers had to go to school, but the students didn't. "Terrific, a P.D.
