The Bayfield Post, 1981-10-01, Page 1The Bayfield Post "THE VOICE OF THE PEOPLE" Editor's Corner By Bob Burton The Supreme Court of Canada has ruled that the Federal Government can legally bring home the Constitution to Canada. The Federal Government is going to get on with it so that the rights of indivi- dual ndividual Canadians will be guaranteed under the law. It all sounds very positive and worth- while. However, let the Federal Government remember that as Canadians we enjoy other rights as well; rights that some see as also guaranteed by Ottawa: like the right to be unemployed, the right to lose one's home because of usurious interest rates, and the right to be cold and hungry. For those who are enjoying the latter rights, the former don't mean too much. There is no fun in being free, equal, and destitute. we were more than encouraged by the reception given the first issue of t} Post. Like all new babies it was small. But like a baby it will grow and grow until it becomes 8 pages and then 12 pages, and even more. For the time being we will have to be content to crawl before trying to walk. We ask you to support our advertisers. Tell them you saw their ad in the Post. They are putting their confidence in the Post to get their message across. They are putting their confidence in the residents of Bayfield and its surrounding community. Don't let them down. We want the people of this area to feel that the Post is their newspaper. You are not only free but encouraged to drop off news items whether they be religious, social, sport, or club. You are the people who make the news. You are the ones who can share it. We have invited the local clergymen in Bayfield to write a weekly column for the Post. Rev. Les Shiel's column appears this week. We look forward to what they have to say. The main thrust of what we are trying to say this week is that if this weekly is to get off the ground we need your support. if your support is forthcoming, the Post will grow and thrive, and our Community self-image and pride will grow with it. ISSUE A-2 THURSDAY, OCTOBER 1, 1981 ,free Cupp LIQUID WASTE The following is an interview The Editor of The Post had with Mr. Steve Shanahan of Shanahan's Liquid Waste Disposal. Question - What .s 'Liquid ',Taste Disposal? Answer - Generally speaking, it is waste from humans and ani- mals or nature. Disposal means hauling to dump sights approved by Dept. of Health. Question - Does Bayfield and area have any specific type of sewage system? Answer - The area is entirely on septic systems or holding tanks, as opposed to bigger centres that have a sewage collection system such as'underground sewers. Question - What is the difference between a septic tank and a holding tank? Answer - A septic tank fills with waste forcing liquids up and out into a weeping bed and they are then absorbed through evaporation and drainage. A holding tank is simply a container that holds all waste materials including liquids and there is no dispersement of the liquids over the property. A holding tank naturally requires pumping more frequently. A holding tank gives a better choice of landscaping because tree roots, for example, won't bother the weeping system because there is none.
