NATES ANC COMMENTS
Ontario Liberalism will hold a pro.
vinoial convention in Toronto during
the summer of next year. The an-
1Glonnoexnent. was made officially by Hon.
A. G. MacKay. It was the original
thought of the Liberal leader to have
the party convene early next autumn,
but after conference and correspondence
with all the provincial Liberal candi.
dates and other prominent adherents
of the cause of Liberalism, it has been
deoided, with practical unanimity of
opinion, to defer the gathering for a
year..
The P'ire Underwriters' AaeooiatiOn
Have for some time been considering the
question of a general redaction of fire
insuranoe rates throughout Ontario, and
there will be a general reduction in all
places • outside the big centres, where
risks are now carried on email prem -
tame. What will be the amount of re•
dation has not been determined, but as
i fa number of the inflaential members of
the assooiation regard the present rates
se high, they are likely to be lowered by
general notice within a short time.
i The division in the LegisIatnre last
Week on the three -fifth local option
clause gave the Liberal minority another
occasion for a prolonged period of desk -
thumping and applause. Mr. I. B.
Lucas (Centre Grey), Chairman of the.
Private Bills Committee and high in
the oornesele of the Government party,
was paired with Hon. Adam Beek, Mr,
W. D. McPherson (West Toronto) was
balanced off off against another Govern-
, anent follower in the person of Mr. A. A,
• Mahafty. Mr, J. S. Gallagher (Front -
i enao) and Mr, J. Thompson, (East
i Peterboro') recorded their votes with
the Opposition, and Mr. R. E. Truax
(South Bruce) voted with the Govern-
-1'meat.
Th
c - e business'of the Ontario LegieIa•
tare was oonoluded on Friday evening
r ,,last, the ceremony of prorogation
taking place on Tuesday. Premier
.Whitney in his closing speech paid a
tribute to Mr. MoKay, leader of the
L 4Opposition, as follows:—"I do not think
tit would be proper," concluded the Pre-
pnier, "to let the session olose without
saying that, in my twenty-one years'
(experience, I have never known a leader
Iof the Opposition who has paid more
tasteful, dignified and industrious atten-
' ttion to the public questions that Dame
top for discussion than has nay hon.
!friend opposite" In the eight weeks,
adoring which the Legislature Just closed
!leas been engaged on provincial business,
,; )242 measures have been dealt with, as
tagainet 240 last year in a session nearly
atwige as long.

headaches and a dear : to avoid exertion.
These troubles can .11 be banished by

Every dose of t 1• medicine makes new,
rick blood. whio drives out impurities,

*Ave Stock Markets,
Toronto, April 13.—City Cattle Mar-
ket.—With only the moderate run of
50 loads of stook, all told, on offer to-
day, the market, as might be expected,
after the recent light runs, was very
firm, prioes generally advancing from
15c. to 20o. over last week. The demand
for butoher cattle is again the most
active feature of the market, and any
thing of fair quality finds a ready mar-
ket at good prices, while choice botcher
cattle or light export suitable for
butcher purposes in the local market
does not have to go abegging. Good
butcher cows are in good demand, and
with the supply limited, prides are very
firm. The export trade is only moder-
ately active at the present high prices,
though well finished cattle are wanted,
and it up to the mark required sell
freely at around 35.75.
The run was 50 loads, with 688 head
of cattle, 128 sheep and lambs, 200 hogs,
and 488 calves.
