Banana bread and hugs all
you need during the holidays
Iwas about to cross over South
Street towards Paddy O'Neils
the other day when a woman
came running at me, yelling my
name.
I thought I was in a commercial for
a moment, maybe one of those
slightly off-putting made -for -televi-
sion specials. I turned to see the per-
son I had just finished interviewing
for a story hurrying towards me in
the heavy snow.
She came bearing gifts: freshly
homemade banana bread.
I left my short time with Ida

our appreciation has

McAuley really does
live and breathe the holiday season.
All of the work put into the display is
returned only in the smiles and the
thank-you's she gets from people
passing by or recognizing her on the
street.
It's a great idea that warms hearts if
only for a moment or two, but
reminds us what this crazy time of
year is supposed to be all about.
Sol got a big hug on the edge of
the street and Dave Flaherty and I
enjoyed some delicious treats before
lunch. I am sure that infectious spirit
has been passed forward by every-
one that Ida encounters, at least I
hope it has.
