Doors Open Ontario welcomes local artists
Rounding out an already
busy weekend, Doors Open
Ontario was featured through-
out Huron County Sept. 13
and 14. The event is meant to
invite visitors to experience
Ontario's hidden heritage
treasures. Local attractions
included artists at the Seaforth
Golf and Country Club, Van
Egmond House, Seaforth's his-
toric roundhouse and Com-
mercial Hotel.
Guests also got a sneak peek
at Huron East's Art Unhinged,
a project featuring doors
painted by local artisans in an
effort to convert discarded
doors into works of art. Several
doors were placed at different
historical locations over the
weekend, and many can cur-
rently be seen in shop win-
dows up and down Main
Street.
According to Doors Open
Ontario, since the program
was launched in 2002, over
five million visits have been
made to heritage sites across
the province.

Remembering Nobel Lanes
To the Editor;
Another demolition pro-
ject completed in the town
of Seaforth, besides the
Queen's Hotel is the clearing
of Starlight Lanes.
Before the blowing alley
in Seaforth was named
Starlight Lanes, it was
called Nobel Lanes. It was
owned by Gordon and
Gerda Nobel from 1964 to
1985.
Gordon and Gerta retired
and sold the bowling alley
just before they moved form
Seaforth to London in Janu-
ary of 1986.
On July 20, 2014, I was in
Seaforth for my husband
Ron's Aunt's birthday. We
took a drive around
Egmondville and Seaforth to
see the houses and
buildings.
As we drove past the
empty lot on Market Street,
where the bowling alley
once stood, I felt a sense of
loss.
My memories of the bowl-
ing alley go back to when I
was nine years old, in 1964.
That was the summer my
mom and dad bought the
bowling alley from Garry
Kelly.
Mom and I still reminisce
about all the fun times we
had socializing at the bowl-
ing alley.
There were all the leagues,
town champs, legion tour-
naments, Christmas parties,
church youth group parties
and lots more. We even had
six teams of moms bowl in a
fundraiser for the co-op
nursery school one Saturday
in May of 1977.
Ron and I met at the
bowling alley and we had
our first date there. We have
bowled in several leagues
throughout the past years.
When we moved to London
in 1984, we encouraged our
three children to become
good bowlers.
Once, when Dennis and
Evan were blowing in the
YBC Bantam division, we all
bowled in the Family Two-
some Tournament. Ron and
Dennis beat Evan and I at
the house level by only five
points.
Dennis and Ron bowled
at the zone level and then
went on to the provincials in
Toronto that summer.
These were very happy
and exciting times for our
family.
Mom and Dad and our
family put many long hours
cleaning and pin setting, as
well as serving snacks and
handing out shoes behind
the counter through the 22
years of owning the bowling
alley.
I hope the people of Sea -
forth will remember these
good years and how much
we appreciated their
patronage.
Thank you.

St. Anne's to hold Welcome Back Liturgy and lunch fundraiser
St. Anne's
school news
Colin Dobson, Minister of
Public Relations
The excitement continues
to build as the third week at
St. Anne's comes to a close.
A variety of sports oppor-
tunities are offered to our
students to keep everybody
active as we approach the
fall months.
On Wednesday, Sept. 17,
St. Anne's will be holding
its Welcome Back Liturgy.
Our school Chaplaincy
Leader, Lisa Phillips, will
kick our Liturgical year off
with her terrific planning
and ideas, as she has
always done.
St. Anne's will also get an
opportunity to welcome
our new priest, Father
Matthew -George as he will
be leading us through kind-
ness and prayer this school
year.
On Thursday, Sept. 18, a
fundraiser Lunch Box Spe-
cial will be held in the cafe-
teria during junior and sen-
ior lunch. Picnic lunches
will be auctioned off with
all money going to a clean
water facility in Ghana. This
activity not only gives
students a unique way to
socialize with their class-
mates, but also an opportu-
nity to welcome new stu-
dents who have come to St.
Anne's from other schools
in the past weeks.
In co-curriculars, St.
Anne's Me -To -We, the Social
Justice Club and Habitat for
Humanity have all resumed
their meetings for the 2014-
2015 school year.
