Huron County driver
charged in hit and run
A 55 -year-old Gorrie man
is facing a criminal charge
in relation to a fatal motor
vehicle collision that killed
27 -year-old Jordan
Moorehead.
According to police, on
Sept. 22, at approximately 8:30
p.m., Huron County OPP,
Huron County EMS and Brus-
sels Fire Department
responded to a collision scene
located just east of Bluevale
on Amberley Road. Emer-
gency responders located an
injured male pedestrian lying
on the roadway. He was trans-
ported to hospital by air
ambulance and as a result of
his injuries he died in hospital
the next day.
An OPP investigation into
the collision determined the
victim was walking west-
bound on Amberley Road
when he was struck by a
westbound International
4400 delivery truck.
The driver failed to stop at
the scene of the accident
and in -turn failed to render
assistance to the injured
pedestrian.
Police identified the
involved vehicle and the
driver has since been
charged.
A 55 -year-old Gorrie man
has been charged with fail-
ure to stop at the scene of
accident, contrary to section
252 of the Criminal Code. He
will appear in court on Nov.
20 in Wingham.
Investigators from the
Huron, Perth and Wellington
County Crime Units, Mount
Forest Forensic Identifica-
tion Services (F.I.S) and the
West Region OPP Technical
Traffic Collision Investiga-
tion (TTCI) Team assisted in
the investigation.

Governor General's History Awards
His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, presented
teachers and other outstanding Canadians with the Governor General's History Awards for their
efforts to further an interest in and understanding of Canadian history and heritage. The awards
were presented at a ceremony at Rideau Hall, on Monday, November 3, 2014
Remembrance committee
honoured in Ottawa
Monday, Nov. 3, was a day
the Great Lakes Storm of 1913
Remembrance Committee
will cherish for years to come.
After a weekend full of
events, Governor General
David Johnston presented the
committee with the Govemor
General's History Award for
Excellence in Community
Programming at Rideau Hall
in Ottawa.
The horrific storm that last
from Nov. 8 to 10 in 1913,
known as the "White
Hurricane," devastated the
shores of the Great Lakes and
was responsible for the deaths
of up to 300 mariners, as well
as the foundering of 20 ships.
The committee created a spe-
cial series of Remembrance
activities around Heritage,
Culture and the Arts as well as
a Marine Job Fair and Trade
Show. Kathy Pletsch of Sea -
forth and Paul Carroll, former
longtime resident of Seaforth,
are both committee
members.
