He added though he received many favourable comments about the ease and convenience of the online and tele- phone -voting system used by the municipality for this election, he was very disappointed with the low voter turnout, which was less than 37 per cent overall in Huron East. Mckersmith ward Raymond Chartrand Raymond Chartrand Raymond Chartrand wants to thank all his supporters who believed in him during this election. "I really enjoyed going door to door in our Tuckersmith Ward meeting and talking to the voters," he said. "Whether it was tallcing to them on their front porch or having a cup of tea at the kitchen table, it was a thrilling and gratifying experience. It was pretty clear, based on our huge success, that the voters wanted change Chartrand went on to say he was so happy to see the voter turnout percent- age had increased by 10 per cent since the last election in Tuckersmith, adding getting the chance to get young, first- time voters involved in the election pro- cess was great to see. 'After all, they are, and could be, our future council mem- bers," he said. "I look forward to working with the other members of council and feel honored to be representing you." Larry McGrath Larry McGrath In the next four years, returning Tuckersmith Coun. Larry McGrath says he hopes to keep taxes in check, improve the municipality's infrastruc- ture and maintain essential services at a reasonable cost. "I anticipate the next term will be a challenge, as the effect of the provincial government's huge debt will continue to trickle down to the municipal level with the result being fewer government funds and grants," he said. McGrath says he feels honoured to have been elected once again to repre- sent the Tuckersmith ratepayers and the municipality of Huron East as a whole. Over 20 years of political experience will assist him in making wise decisions on behalf of the ratepayers and as a self employed businessman, he realizes the importance of balancing the budget. McGrath went on to say he looks for- ward to hearing the fresh ideas of the new councillors, and once again worlcing with DONNELLY. McKillop ward Kevin Wilbee Kevin Wilbee Kevin Wilbee would like to thank voters for selecting him as a councillor in the McKillop Ward of Huron East. "I am very appreciative and grateful of the strong support you showed me," he said. "I am very excited to get to work with the mayor and the rest of council, to focus on the important priorities and issues facing our community' For Wilbee, one of the most important issues facing the com- munity is the loss of jobs and stalled economic development throughout the region which is contributing to a population decline and spiral of lost eco- nomic activity despite the fact Huron East and Huron County as a whole has many strengths and quality infrastructure. Brenda Dalton Brenda Dalton Newly appointed councillor Brenda Dalton would like to thank the ratepayers of McKillop Ward for their support at the polls. "I will do my best to represent the McKillop Ward and all of Huron East with a focus on a fis- cally responsible budget, support- ing the development of recreation and maintenance and improve- ment of infrastructure," she said, adding she will be accessible and approachable to address any ongoing concerns as they arise. "I wish everyone a safe and success- ful completion of harvest and I look forward to the next four years serving as your councilor." Grey ward Alvin McLellan Alvin McLellan Incumbent Grey Coun. Alvin McLellan would like to thank the ratepayers of Grey Ward, Huron East, for the support they have shown him at the polls on Mon- day, Oct.27. "I have been very lucky to have that support over the years and I will work as hard as I can to repre- sent you at the Huron East council table, as I always have," he said. "Being elected to serve our ward and Huron East is an honour to me, and I am looking forward to working with council and staff for the upcoming four years." McLellan went on to say he hopes residents would not hesi- tate to contact him if they have any question or concerns, as he has always been accessible.
