Cavan holds annual meeting
Ruth Campbell
Winthrop correspondent
The snowfall has slowed down
and things hidden under the snow
are starting to poke through - is
winter over or is this just a respite?
A short service was held at Cavan
on Sunday. Ann Bosman and
Susan MacDonald led the service
and Irma Pryce played the organ.
Grace DoImage assisted also. Far-
ren Goos spoke about her trip to
Kenya in Africa last summer. 28
students spent a month in an
impoverished community. One
million people now have access to
clean water. The children are
happy. Residents have meat once a
year; toilets are a toilet seat over a
hole in the ground; people have to
travel 6 kilometres to get water to
be used by people, animals, wash-
ing dishes and clothes etc.
After lunch the annual meeting
for Cavan was held. The report
from 2013 was read. Motions
regarding funds were moved and
carried. Wayne DoImage is the new
elder. Susan MacDonald replaces
Susan Wheatley on the food bank
committee. The annual fireworks
are planned for May 23 at the
ballpark.
Vince and Sheila Nicol, Shannon
and friend visited recently with
Beatrice Campbell.
Jim and Ruth Axtmann have
returned from Vietnam and Cam-
bodia. These countries have a long
history, recently involving war.
They are now coming out of pov-
erty. They saw rice growing at dif-
ferent stages. They viewed the tem-
ples at Angkor Wat and more
temples which had until recently
been buried in the jungle. They
also saw temple complexes from
the years 800-1200. These were
built by an emperor who wished to
leave his mark on the world. They
were on a river cruise on the
Mekong river. It goes through
Hanoi, into Cambodia and back
into Saigon in Vietnam. They found
it interesting to see the agriculture
and culture of countries and life
along the river which floods.
Houses near the river are built on
stilts. Weather in these countries
was hot and humid.

HOME PLAN OF THE WEEK
PLAN NUMBER 6-4-344
RELEASE DATE: MAR 1" - MAR 7', 2014
COUNTRY- STYLE OPEN LIVING
Country -style is shown at its best in this expansive family home designed for open living. The highlight of
the main floor is the huge great room, distinguished by a 12 -foot sloping ceiling, gas fireplace with media
shelves and a wealth of windows to bathe the room in natural light.
The dining room is spacious enough for guests to join the family and enjoy dinner with ease - and to
step out to the patio overlooking the garden. The kitchen is well designed to suit a house of this size and
includes a pantry and plenty of countertop and cupboard space.
A pass-through leads to the laundry room, which has its own small covered porch and access to the
house - a practical way to keep foot traffic away from the living areas. Behind the laundry room is a
three-piece bathroom with a bath and a shower stall.
A staircase leads to an unfinished bonus room above the garage - a large, rectangular room with a sloping
ceiling which would make an ideal media and games area. The master suite on the main floor is privately
separate from the family bedrooms upstairs. The en -suite bathroom includes a soaker tub, shower stall
and double vanity.
The upstairs hall overlooks the foyer below and serves to separate bedroom two and a four -piece
bathroom from bedrooms three and four. All the upstairs bedrooms gain character from attractive dormer
windows. The veranda, columns with stone accents and the dormers add to the considerable charm of
the exterior.
The house is 70 feet, 4 inches wide and 40 feet deep with 2,194 square feet of living space.
Plans for design 6-4-344 are available for $755 (set of 5), $860(set of 8) and $944 for a super set of 10.
