Volunteers at the Seaforth
and District Food Bank
received a surprise special
delivery last week, just in
time for Christmas.
On Dec. 18, a truck carry-
ing over $2,200 worth of
canned and non-perishable
food items pulled up to the
backdoor of town hall, a gift
from the workers and com-
panies involved in the St.
Columban Wind Project.
According to Brittany
Singer, administrative assis-
tant for Mortenson Con-
struction as well as captain
of the food project, donating
to a worthy organization is
an annual tradition for the
group.
"Each year we fill a trailer
decorated as a present to
support the local community
as best we can," she
explained, adding this year's
haul was collected in just 18
days. "I actually live in Sea -
forth right now while work-
ing on the project so I'm
most familiar with the com-
munity. I've really appreci-
ated the hospitality that I've
received here so I wanted to
give back to Seaforth."
Singer went on to say the
project was such a great suc-
cess due to the participation
of donations also received by
numerous subcontractors on
the project.

For Herb McGowan, food
bank coordinator, the
donation couldn't have
come at a better time.
"This time of the year we're
twice as busy and currently
our client usage is up over 20
per cent from last year," he
explained, adding the food
bank will most likely see a
total of around 500 more cli-
ents over 2013, which is a tre-
