Huron Expositor, 2014-12-03, Page 3Brussels road construction community update The County of Huron and the Municipality of Huron East, in coop- eration with Lavis Contracting and GM Blueplan, are focusing on provid- ing a safe and easily maintainable surface for pedestrians and vehicles in Brussels, as construction work is concluded for 2014. The concrete work will continue as weather permits, and the remainder of the gravel surfaces will be paved with hot mix asphalt, which will be replaced with concrete in 2015. At that time, the temporary asphalt will be recycled and re -used accord- ingly when construction resumes as early as weather permits next year. The County of Huron would like to thank the public for their understand- ing and support as they move quickly to complete this important infrastruc- ture project. Anyone with concerns, or those seeking information, are asked to con- tact the County of Huron Public Works Department at 519-524-8394, ext 3504. — INIPTFL7.7. 7.1 I IPA .UW1 11 MI I luwalasi. e..prrkd l I 49.114.112. . Doherty was appointed direc- tor in August 2010 and the extension will take him to 2019. Doherty has spent his entire career in education with the AMDSB and its predecessor board, the Huron County Board of Education. He took on his first teaching position in 1986 at F.E. Madill Secondary School in Wingham. He also taught at Goderich District Collegiate Institute before becoming a vice-principal and then later become the principal. He then made the move to central administration as the System Principal of Student Success and then held three portfolios as a superintendent in operations, learning services and human resources, before landing his current position in 2010 when the previous direc- tor retired. Looking back over the past five years, Doherty said, "I am extremely proud of our strategic plan. We have made great pro- gress in creating positive, inclu- sive learning environments and maximizing student outcomes!' "More students are more included more often in all of our schools. In addition, our stu- dents are becoming more col- laborative, better communica- tors, more creative, critical thinkers and problem solvers. More than ever, Avon Maitland students are well prepared for whatever destination they choose. I am very proud to be part of the AMDSB," he added. seaforthhuronexpositorcom NOTIFICATION Habitat Regulations for Protecting Species at Risk Ontario is fortunate to have a wide variety of plants and animals. Over 200 of these species, however, are currently 'at risk'. One of the key threats to their survival is habitat loss. Under the Endangered Species Act, 2007, the Government of Ontario has passed habitat regulations for Eastern Sand Darter, Hine's Emerald, Hungerford's Crawling Water Beetle, Pitcher's Thistle, and Wavy -rayed Lampmussel. These provisions will help protect and recover these plants and animals. The regulations come into force on January 1, 2015. Want to know more about habitat regulations or the Endangered Species Act? Information on the regulations is available on the Environmental Registry of the Environmental Bill of Rights website at ontario.ca/ebr (Registry #012-1549) and on the Species at Risk website at ontario.ca/speciesatrisk.
