Clinton's own Holdyn Lansink
is on the road to the OHL after
being selected as a twelfth round
Priority Selection for the Erie
Otters Saturday, April 5.
Lansink currently plays for the
Huron -Perth Minor Midget Lak-
ers AAA club, and has been hav-
ing a great year in the stats.
In regular season, Lansink
racked up 29 points, 16 of them
goals. In the post -season, how-
ever, he amassed 18 points in 15
games, eight goals, 10 assists,
giving him a 1.2 points per game
average.
When the draft was
announced Saturday, Lansink
said his whole family was gath-
ered around the computer for
pretty much the whole day. The
only trouble was, they didn't get
to see him getting picked.
"The pick right before I went...
the whole website went down,"
he said. "We were all anxiously
waiting and it crashed on us?'
However, not long after, Lan -
sink received a call from the
Otters congratulating him on the
draft pick and welcoming him to
the organization. It was an emo-
tional moment.
"I was at a loss. I was speech-
less," he said of the big
announcement. "I jumped up
and gave my mom and dad the
biggest hug:'
As a 16 -year old, Lansink said
it will be pretty tough to crack
the OHL, but plans to go out for
skates with some Junior B
sqauds and get his foot in the
door. He heads to camp in Erie
in August, and hopes to land a
spot on a Junior B team in
Listowel or Stratford.
"That's the goal anyway," he
said Sunday.
Playing for the Lakers had
been a dream for Lansink, so the
OHL draft was icing on the cake.
Lansink is currently in Grade
10 at St. Anne's, and said while
hockey is his career ambition, he
would like to pursue something
in chiropractic or personal train-
ing - "stuff to do with the human
body" as he puts it.
"It's been a crazy 24 hours," he
said Sunday. From the moment
his name was announced, he
has been flooded with congratu-
latory calls, and the support he
has received from his family and

friends has been amazing
throughout the whole year.
He likes the physical side of
his game, opening up the ice for
his teammates and "getting
crafty" with the puck.
"I like to set up plays and drive
the net hard, with or without the
puck," he said.

Organizers say first
year in Clinton was a
huge success

One of the top players for the Toronto
Blue Jays in the early 1990s will return to
Clinton this summer to help local youth
hone their skills.
The Kelly Gruber Silver Slugger Base-
ball Camp will return on July 14 and July
15.
The camp is hosted by Clinton Minor
Baseball and according to organizers,
"provides a great opportunity for our
region to grow and promote the great
game of baseball."
Organizers said in a press release that
approximately 100 boys and girls from
Huron, Bruce, Perth, Middlesex and
Lambton counties attended the baseball
camp in 2013.
The camp is intended for children aged
10 to 17 and registration can be done
online at www.gruberbaseball.com.
Doug Jones, director of Gruber's base-
ball camps, said this year they will wel-
come former Montreal Expo pitcher
"Spaceman" Bill Lee, who became the
oldest person to play in a pro game last
year, and fellow former MLBer Scott Bul-
lett as two of the coaches.
Several players who have been coached
by Bullett will be helping out as well.
Jones said they had a great time in
Clinton last year and the community
really supported them.
In a press release, Gruber echoed
those sentiments.
"We are very excited to return to Clin-
ton this summer to run the Kelly Gru-
ber Silver Slugger baseball camp. We
received such a warm welcome last year
and instantly felt like part of the com-
munity. People always think that it is
all about bringing baseball to the com-
munities that we visit but for us it is also
about the experiences we have while
visiting and the relationships we form
with the coaches, players and the com-
munity. It is important for us to come
back and see these people and see how
they have developed over the year and
to help them develop further. Can't wait
to be back."
The cost of the camp is $60, which is
half of the normal cost due to Huron -
Bruce MPP Ben Lobb lining up a
number of sponsors, Jones said.
Spots are going quickly though, he
said, as they have filled about 50
already.
Brad Thompson of Clinton Minor
Baseball said it was "a positive experi-
ence for the kids and amazing to see
100 of them playing baseball on the dia-
monds in Clinton last year."
