going into the Mid -Huron landfill this year, according to the
most recent figures from the Mid -Huron Landfill Board. The
numbers show year to date figures for landfill tonnage up to
September.

tonnes.
As part of the overall contribution to landfill, that
puts Clinton at about 14 per cent, Goderich Township
at 8.4 per cent and Hullett at five per cent of all waste
heading into the Mid -Huron Landfill Site.
The town of Goderich continues to be the largest
producer of waste, sending 2876 tonnes, or 43 per cent
of all Mid -Huron bound waste, to landfill in the first
nine months of this year.
Originally slated to close next year, the landfill clo-
sure has been moved back numerous times due to an
overall decrease in waste and an increase in
recycling. The latest figures put the closure
date at 2017. The affected municipalities cur-
rently using Mid -Huron are looking to South
Huron as a new location for waste.
While July was the biggest month for Clin-
ton at 194 tonnes sent to landfill, the largest
volume of waste overall was sent in May. Most
of that - 447 tonnes - was from Seaforth,
resulting from an April 27 fire that gutted the
town's only grocery store.
