On September 19 Mr. Grei-
danus' grade 10 class was
given an opportunity to watch
as acting fire chief, Dave Ren-
ner, delivered a presentation
on the safety procedures when
using a fire extinguisher.
The students were shown
how to properly hold and
use the extinguisher. After
they were shown how to use
it properly, Renner took the
students outside and let
them put out a fire safely by
themselves so they can have
the confidence to put one
out if they ever needed to.
The training only took one
hour so it wasn't hard for the
students to focus.
Greidanus invited Renner
to teach his students about

For over seven years the
three elementary schools in
Clinton, namely, Huron
Christian School, Clinton
Public School, and St.
Joseph's Catholic School,
have collaborated for the
Terry Fox Run. This year, on
September 19, around 650
students participated in the
run and about $2,500 was
raised for cancer research.
The staff at all three
schools agree that, not only
are all of the students enthu-
siastic about the event, but
they are also passionate for
the cause that the Terry Fox
Run represents. Further-
more, students like the social
aspect of the run and inter-
acting with other schools.
At the Terry Fox Run the
students were divided into
three age groups and given
presentations about Terry
Fox and the Terry Fox Run.
The actual Terry Fox Foun-
dation sends the schools
certain kits (which includes
presentation videos) that
help school staff organize
their Terry Fox Runs. Each
year, each of the schools may
also organize prizes or
events that can be awarded
to their student body
depending on whether or
not that individual school
meets its goal in raising
cancer research money. For
example, members of the
school staff might shave
their hair or be dunked in
cold water if at least $1,000 is
raised.
During the Terry Fox Run
students affected by cancer
in some way may wear stick-
ers or badges that state: "I

more dedication next year.

joining our team from now
until the middle of January.
Jesse Le, a grade 12 stu-
dent at St. Anne's Catholic
Secondary School and Shari
Evans, a grade 11 student at
Central Huron Secondary
School are excited about
their co-op placements at
the News Record as both stu-
dents have an interest in
writing and happenings in
the community.
Le's areas of strength in
school include the social sci-
ences and English and he
enjoys writing, reading, play-
ing chess and other intellec-
tual activities. Writing "is a
passion of mine," Le says, and
he looks forward to gaining
experience in the field.
Evans's area of strength
in school includes writing,
both fiction and non-fic-
tion, and she is interested
in journalism. As Evans
says, "I hope to learn a lot
of different ways to publish
writing and what people
like to read about."
While working at the News
Record some of the students'
duties will include taking
photographs, researching old
newspapers and putting
together the "Early Files" sec-
tion of the newspaper as well
as reporting on news from
their respective high schools.
