Road signs, vehicles and architecture are all strongly reminiscent of these cultures and for me this was a surprising departure from the naive, stereotypical "African" expectations I trav- elled there with. Another surprise was the influence of East Indian, Malay, Portugese, French and other European cultures as well. In rural areas the traditional tribal lifestyle that we picture is still very common but urban areas are extremely modern and multi- cultural, offering all of the modern amenities we know here and amazing and won- derful discoveries such as world class dining, culture and theatre and amazing modern Wednesday, November 26, 2014 • News Record 15 and traditional architecture. A country rich in culture, history and natural beauty, South Africa is an exciting and fasci- nating panorama of sights, sounds, cultures and people.
