Clinton News Record, 2014-11-26, Page 5Wednesday, November 26, 2014 • News Record 5 letters to the editor www.clintonnewsrecord.com Christmas Shopping Day and Gift Assembly Day Dear Editor: St Nick's Christmas Shop- ping Day for Children at St Thomas' Anglican Church in Seaforth is coming on Saturday, December 6 from 9 am -noon. This is open to all kids ages 3-13 to shop for their family members by giving a monetary donation at the door. Children, in tum, are assisted by our helpful elves to choose and wrap up to 6 gifts each from our great selection of donated items, while their parents wait behind, enjoy- ing refreshments and check- ing hecking out the silent auction table. Now in our 9th year we rely on our generous community - merchants, church congregations and individuals- to make this event an overwhelming suc- cess! Small gift items or monetary tax receiptable donations are graciously welcomed and can be dropped off at the church's John Street entrance, on Fri- day mornings between 10 am -1 pm. Our Gift Assem- bly Daywill be held Satur- day, November 29 from 10 am to 2 pm and we invite participation from inter- ested members of the com- munity. And of course we always welcome assistance on the shopping day! Please call 519-522-1435 for more info or a list of items needed. Proceeds of the event are givenbackto fund children's programs or events in our area. Through the generosity of supporters and shoppers, since we began in 2006 over $12,000 has been returned to the local communities of Sea - forth, Clinton and Mitchell, for programs benefiting kids, such as free skating at local arenas, Huron County Booster Club, Lion's Club, Christmas food hampers, Women's Shelter, non-profit daycare centres, summer camps, school music pro- grams, Public Library on Wheels, Huron Hospice Rainbows program, Sea - forth Optimists Childhood Cancer Program, and others. Thankyou to all the 'St. Nick's Elves' in our neigh- bourhood for faithfully shar- ing their time, talent and treasure with this fun ven- ture. We express our sincere thanks to Burton and Tanya Dykstra, Jeff and Kim Postma, Lion Peter and Marianne Rowat, Jeff and Una Roy, and Jay McFarlan and Dr. Veronica Lee who willingly showcased their distinctive homes for the Clinton Lions and our ticket purchasers. Willingly assisting with decor were Per-fect Designs, Backyard Flowers, N.J.S. Designs, Nature's Nest and Greyhaven Gardens. Special thanks extended to D'Arcy McClure and the Huron Fish and Game for allowing the use of your clubhouse for our refreshment stop. Our thanks to June DeRuyter and Norma McGregor for organizing refreshments, including current and former Lions wives. We appreciate the Deli-licious donation of food for our "ThankYou" gathering. With our loyal business locations selling tickets, we achieved selling 592 tickets, thus enabling the Lions Club of Clinton to support our many community projects. Thank you to Clinton and area residents Dear Editor: On behalf of the members of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 140 Clinton we give our warmest thanks for your generous contributions during the 2014 Poppy Campaign. Your participation has made this year a great success, which will enable the Legion to provide support and assistance to our area veterans and their families, and to various community projects. We extend our most sincere appreciation to our Poppy Drive Volunteers, the Central Huron Fire Department, the Vanastra Lions Club, and to all local businesses that opened their doors to us. Our annual parade to the cenotaph was once again well organized and kept safe by the OPP, and the Municipality of Central Huron. A special thank you to Steve Campbell, Rev. Nick Vandermey, Rev. Karine Snowden, bugler Paul Dearlove, pianist Dana Prouse, the Clinton Pipe Band, and our Legion Colour Party. We appreciate the large turn out at the cenotaph this year. Thank you to our Bayfield organizers Dianne Alexander, Geordie Palmer, and all who helped with the Bayfield campaign, and everyone who attended the Remembrance service on Sunday November 10. Thank you to Bill Dowson for organizing the Remembrance service in Varna, and all those who attended. Thank you to the First Baptist Church Clinton for hosting our annual church parade, and to our Cadets for all their assistance. Our 2014 Poppy Campaign Huron County Christmas Bureau in full swing Dear Editor: Christmas is nearing and with it the Huron County Christmas Bureau is gearing up to help ensure no child is forgotten at Christmas. Last year, over 1000 children, from newborn to age 18, benefited from your generosity. The Christmas Bureau is a countywide volunteer group that organizes five gift centres (bureaus) that then distribute new gifts of toys, clothing and food gift cards to families that register for a helping hand. This year the bureaus are located at: Clinton Canadian Legion 95 Kirk St., hosted by St. Peters Catholic Church, Exeter: Exeter United Church 42 James St. Exeter Goderich: Trinity Christian Reformed Church 245 Mill Rd. Goderich Seaforth: Agriplex, 140 Duke St., hosted byEgmondville United Church Wmgham: Wmgham United Church ,217 Minnie St. Wmgham We ask for your assistance once again this year in helping meet the need to assist others. Donations of new toys, gift cards, recreational items or clothing will be gratefully received at the churches or community drop boxes until Fri., Dec. 5. Financial contributions are also required and are much appreciated. These can be made at the church bureaus or mailed to the care of Huron -Perth Children's Aid Society, 413 MacEwan St, Goderich, N7A4M1. We also wish to make custodial parents, who live in Huron County, aware that the phones will be opening on until Dec. 5th if you would like to make a confidential appointment.
