Clinton News Record, 2014-07-30, Page 1414 News Record • Wednesday, July 30, 2014 OPP POLICE BRIEFS HURON COUNTY - Saturday, July 26, 2014 marked the five year anni- versary since the death of Jason PEARSON from Water- loo, ON. Jason was 31 years old when he was struck and killed in a fatal fail to remain collision. At approximately 5:00 a.m. on Sunday, July 26, 2009 Jason, a pedestrian using the roadway was struck by a vehicle just north of the Grand Bend Motorplex on Grand Bend Line (County Road #81). The vehicle driver left the scene and vic- tim behind. A second motorist came upon the col- lision and called for help. Jason was transported to hospital where he later died as a result of the injuries he sustained in the collision. The Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Crime Unit would like to remind the public that this is an ongoing investigation and police are still seeking assistance from the public. "Jason PEARSON was a young man with family and friends who loved him dearly. The driver that hit him needs to come forward, take responsibility and do the right thing. A RADAR device was used to confirm the driver's exces- sive speed and it was deter- mined the driver was speeding at a speed of 144 km/h in a posted 90 km/h zone. The driver, a 21 year old male from Huron East was charged with Race a Motor Vehicle. His driver's licence has been suspended for seven days and his vehicle has been impounded for seven days. He now has a court appearance scheduled for Provincial Offences Court - Goderich on September 2, 2014. CENTRAL HURON - A 33 year old male recently had his driving privileges sus- pended for three days fol- lowing a traffic stop late last week. At 8:00 p.m. on July 18, 2014 a Toyota sedan entered a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E) checkpoint located at the intersection of Porter's Hill Line and Union Road. Upon speaking with the occupants the officer observed open containers of alcohol inside the vehi- cle. In addition, the officer determined the driver had consumed some alcohol. A roadside screening test was administered and the driver registered a warning. As a result, a 33 year old male driver from Central Huron was served with a three day driver's license suspension and charged with Driving With an Open Container of Alcohol. In addition, a 32 year old male passenger was charged under the Liquor Licence Act with Having an Open Container of Liquor Other than in Licensed Premise.
