Free outdoor movie night PubIic invited
presented by Huron to Bayfield
County Health Unit ^^ain Beach
Families are invited to a free
outdoor movie night at the
Wingham Splash Pad on Satur-
day, August 2.
The Huron County Health
Unit, in partnership with Wing -
ham Homecoming 2014,
will present "The LEGO
Movie" as part of a tobacco -free
event at the William Street
splash pad in Wingham. Activi-
ties promoting tobacco -free liv-
ing, including button making
and a trivia wheel, begin at 8:30
p.m. The movie begins at
approximately 9 p.m. Please
bring lawn chairs and blankets
to sit on.
This tobacco -free, family-ori-
ented event brings attention to
the role of media messaging and
tobacco use.
"Most movies with smoking
are rated for kids and teens,"
says Public Health Promoter
Samantha Docherty. "These
movies can have a big influence
on kids to start smoking and this
helps the tobacco industry
recruit a new generation of
customers "
The Wingham Scouts will sell
refreshments at the event and
youth volunteers will gather
public support to address smok-
ing in movies rated for children
and youth.
The free movie will take place
rain or shine. The rain location is
the Maitland River Community
Church on 414 Josephine Street
in Wingham.
Huron County "Food for Thought"
If you live in Huron County, you
probably have seen the truck. Its
distinctive logo says "Huron County
Foodbank Distribution Centre':
While that sounds important, how
many of us actually know what they
do? Are they a local food bank? Is
this a government organization?
You maybe surprised to learn
the Huron County Foodbank
Distribution Centre is neither of
these. What makes the truck run
is a whole lot of caring individu-
als with a passion for their local
community. Yes it is true that
many folks in Huron County
need to rely on a local food bank
from time to time. It is also true
that what is on the shelf some-
times has a lot to do with what
the Distribution Centre has
been able to round up and ship
to the local food bank outlet.
The Huron County Foodbank
Distribution Centre is a volunteer
organization founded by people
motivated to help, and apply their
business skills to reduce hunger
in Huron County. They excel in
bringing community minded
business people together who
have a knack for knowing what
quality surplus food is available.
They then take action to acquire
and distribute it. As food distribu-
tors, this organization is able to
handle large quantities efficiently.
Their truck is a valuable resource
to deliver needed food items to
local food banks and other social
agencies.
While most of their work is
neither seen nor acknowledged by
the general community until now,
their vision is to ramp up the opera-
tion further. That is where you can
come in to help.
On August 7 at 6:30 p.m., The
Huron County FoodbankDistribu-
tion Centre will be hosting an event
they are calling the "Be Still and
Know Fundraiser" This event will
include a dinner complete with
local dining music and a silent auc-
tion later, featuring local artisan
cheeses. All proceeds will go
directly to help "...make hunger
non-existent in Huron County". The
event will be held at the Vanastra
Community Christian Reformed
Church. For more information,
please contact Janet Boot at 519-
