OPP NEWS BRIEFS
BLUEWATER - A 39 year old male will be without
driving privileges for three days this week following a
traffic stop on June 22, 2014. At 3:15 a.m., Huron County
Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to a
complaint of a red SUV that was heading northbound
on Bluewater Veteran's Highway. The witness observed
the driver of the Ford SUV travelling in and out of the
marked lane of travel. Officers located and stopped the
suspect vehicle on Bluewater Veteran's Highway near
Telephone Road.
Upon speaking with the driver the officer detected the
driver had been drinking alcohol. This resulted in a
roadside test being administered. The driver failed the
roadside test and was transported to the Forest OPP
Detachment for breath tests.
He later provided samples of his breath to the Intoxi-
lizer Technician and his readings now registered in the
warn range. As a result, a 39 year old male driver from
Chatham was served with a three day driver's license
suspension. Additionally, his motor vehicle has been
impounded for three days.
HURON COUNTY - The Ontario Provincial Police
(OPP) is once again teaching kids that getting caught
'doing the right thing' this summer can be cool.
Through a partnership with Mac's Convenience
Stores, OPP officers who see young people doing ran-
dom acts of kindness and exhibiting positive behaviour
will be handing out `tickets', which are actually coupons
valid for a free Froster beverage at Mac's.
Operation Freeze 2014 provides law enforcement
officials with an additional tool to initiate conversation
and promote community awareness. During the
upcoming summer months, OPP officers across the
province will be presenting thousands of these cou-
pons to kids.
Officers will use Operation Freeze to recognize youth
for wearing bicycle helmets; doing good deeds like
picking up trash; observing crosswalks and participat-
ing in community activities. They can also be used as
conversation starters to help establish a rapport with
kids in their patrol areas.
"Any opportunity that police officers have to interact
with young people is an excellent way to open up con-
versation and develop a rapport with them," said OPP
Deputy Commissioner Brad Blair, Provincial Com-
mander for Traffic Safety and Operational Support.
"When police officers work with local businesses to rec-
ognize youth, positive things can happen. Partnerships
like the ones made during Operation Freeze can leave a
lasting impression on our youth and make our commu-
nities better places to live."
"Mac's is once again proud to partner with the OPP
on this important initiative that gives kids a chance to
show they do care about their communities," said Sean
Sportun - Manager, Loss Prevention & Security for
Mac's. "Crime prevention is important to us and when
young people show positive behaviour, we want to
reward them."
HURON EAST - Huron County Ontario Provincial
Police (OPP) officers are currently investigating a break,
enter and theft that took place at a barn located on Car-
diff Road. Sometime during the last two weeks those
responsible attended the unoccupied property and
entered the unlocked barn. Once inside they stole a
4' X 6' homemade steel utility trailer. The trailer was
painted black with white rims. They also stole a model
826 Noma gas powered snow blower; this model oper-
ates on a track system. As well, a John Deere snow
blower attachment for a riding lawn mower was stolen
along with an older model chainsaw
The value of the stolen goods is estimated at $1300.
Any person with information regarding this incident
should immediately contact Huron OPP at 1-888-310-
1122 or (519) 524-8314.
Should you wish to remain anonymous, you may call
Crime Stoppers at 1 -800 -222 -TIPS (8477), where you
maybe eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.
