"A Christmas card is a singer of songs that tell an ancient story; a holy night, nostalgic star, and heavenly angels glory, a card to be read and read again...." Hullett Central School is participat- ing in the Huron County Christmas Food/Clothing Drive again this year. Classes have been assigned specific items of clothing to donate if a family is able. Any pupil can bring in non-per- ishable or canned food items, or toilet- ries. If a community resident wished to donate in this manner items could be dropped off at the school or given to a pupil. John and I have new neighbours. You may have noticed the lights on in the former home of Dave Armstrong this last ten days or so. We welcome Ryan Garver and Janet Leaning and their two children to the village. The young fam- ily comes from Vanastra. I trust you will make them welcome. LONDESBOROUGH UNITED CHURCH The new year for the Christian church began on Sunday, November 30th, the first Sunday of Advent. Rev. Fletcher lit the first candle in the Advent wreath, the candle of 'hope'. He explained that advent means a time of waiting and anticipation. It is a thinking time/space before Christmas. People will be getting out their advent calendars now. Terry remarked that the first advent calendar was made in Germany in the 19th century. Through the years they have contained Christmas pictures, quotes and choco- lates. Of the thousands of different advent calendars manufactured today, only 3.1% have Christian themes. During the children's time at the front, Terry and the children spoke about preparations for Christmas. He told them that as a boy he was always curious about a gift his mother placed high in their tree. She called it the 'you never know gift' One year a relative the family rarely saw dropped by during the yule season with a gift. Terry's mother went to the tree and gave the relative that 'you never know gift' She wanted everyone to have a Christmas gift. Next Sunday the children will be pre- senting their White Gift Service and bringing gifts. Those gifts will ensure everyone in Huron County has a gift at Christmas. "Who Wants to Know?" was the title for the message to the adult con- gregants that morning. Rev. Fletcher's supporting scripture was Luke 1:26-38, the account of the angel appearing to Mary about her pregnancy. As if it were planned the senior choir sang the anthem "Dreaming Mary': Luke's accounting of the ministry of Christ was thoroughly researched at the request of a man named Theopo- lus. As his message Terry took on the role of Luke, the private investigator, and presented his findings by video. He reported the events of Christ's life from the visit to Mary by the angel through Christ's ministry on earth in updated terms. Through his research, Luke came to the conclusion he should become a Christian and follow those teachings. Terry encouraged everyone to take time during the season of Advent to feel the hope, peace, joy and love of Christ's coming. Following next week's White Gift Service there will be a social time. Please bring along a finger food tray to share. :-'gO QTR PRICING eoyt.ca 11 COROLLA, GE S14,U0t5 11 VENZA,HAST 522,891$ 10 FII' HLANDSR S23,00.5 011 MAT1 IX, XR 511,350 00 CAHRY", LE Si 1,0945 SS RA1d4, 4WD 511,09S 07 TUNDRA.
