Huron Heritage Fund cheques handed out
Saying `thank you'
Sylvia Nonkes, left, and Linda Logan, right, from the East Wawanosh 150th Anniversary
Committee were at the Dec. 13 Huron County Council meeting to receive a cheque from the
Huron Heritage Fund and to say thank you to councillors who made it possible to print the
history book that was created in conjunction with the anniversary that was held this year. At
the Dec. 13 meeting a new crop of grants was approved from the fund, totalling just under
$15,000 for local projects. (Shawn Loughlin photo)
Sylvia Nonkes and Linda Logan
of the East Wawanosh 150
Anniversary Committee were in
Goderich last week to thank Huron
County Council for its help in
publishing A Snippet in Time.
The book, which served as a
historical chronicle with plenty of
photography for the township, was
published this summer to coincide
with the township's l50th
anniversary. It was the recipient of a
Huron Heritage grant, which aided
in its production costs.
Nonkes and Logan were on
hand at Huron County Council's
Dec. 13 committee of the
whole meeting to officially receive
the cheque from Warden Jim Ginn
and Acting Chief Administrative
Officer Meighan Wark.

The beer is described as being

Council received a report from
staff regarding Bill 68, which has
been dubbed the Modernizing
Ontario's Municipal Act, and its
potential implications on the county.
Clerk Susan Cronin said that
while she felt the county would be
able to implement much of the
act, and had already implemented
some of it, there was one portion
of it she felt the county wasn't
quite ready for yet on that side.
There is a part of the act, she told
councillors, that would allow for
councillors to access and partake in
meetings remotely, via the internet
using a video connection service.
Cronin said that the county's
information technology (IT)
department wasn't ready to take on
that kind of shift.
She suggested revisiting it in
2018, but said it was simply too
early to try and implement it in
Huron County.
