The news around Walton consists
of International Plowing Match and
the International Plowing Match!
Congratulations to all involved in
organizing and working at the
match, it was great!
Yes, Tuesday, the rainy day, wasn't
the best and caused some concerns
and the right decision for safety was
made for Wednesday, but the rest of
the week made up for it. Yes it was
hot, but who complains about
summer weather when we had so
little! It was fantastic and anyone I
spoke with agrees! I spent the whole
day Saturday there from 8:30 a.m.
until closing and did not see it all.
We rode the wagons to the site, just
for the experience, and then up and
down the roads, into the many tents
and on we went.
The Huron East tent and display
was fabulous, as were the Huron
County tents. Great idea to have
each municipality represented in a
replica barn! Farming in Huron
County was first and foremost. Also,
the manufacturing sector of each
area was highlighted and the
information was available to draw
folks back to Huron. Great job
everyone!
The Brussels Fall Fair tent was
great with more entries than other
years to have people looking around
for awhile. Kudos to the Brussels
Agricultural Society! The display of
quilts in the fair tent was fabulous
and the many quilts displayed in the
quilt tent were awesome. The
Lifestyles tent was busy everyday
with a variety of great displays,
speakers and we were able to enjoy
the wedding dress show on Saturday
afternoon. Good job ladies!
To be honest, we did not see
George Canyon, but we could hear
him as we still had many sites to see
before closing! We missed the
dancing tractors, but we had seen
them before, but did see the Szoke
Extreme Motorcycle Show —
amazing balance and timing
required!
We crammed as much in as we
could before closing, even waiting
until almost 3 p.m. to have lunch!
We snacked on cotton candy from
the Goderich to Guelph (G2G) Trail
folks, apples from Hoegy's Brussels
Agromart, popcorn from
Thompson's and maple candy and
peanuts from Morris Township and
Fairlaine Farms. It was a wonderful
day spent with two good friends at
the 2017 IPM at Walton!
I did take notice and count the
many farms, houses or properties
that decorated for the IPM. On
County Road 12 from Seaforth to
Brussels there were 51 places
decorated. Some had just the orange
and lime green bows, others had
signs and plants and others had
tractors, plows, milkcans, plants and
plows decorated in some very nice
displays. On my travels everyday on
the backroads of Grey and
McKillop, I counted 32 places
decorated with the IPM colours. It
was great to see so many getting
Obituaries
behind and supporting the IPM by
decorating and making our area so
welcoming to the thousands of
visitors to our area. A comment I
heard from someone from out of our
area, was how very friendly people
from our area had been and helpful
when asking directions, where to
eat, what to go and see. What a great
community we have and to live in!
We have sadness for the local
community with the news of the
passing of a courageous nine-year-
old Rebecca Kipfer-Pryce of
Winthrop. She will be mourned by
her parents Karen and Dwayne
Pryce and her siblings Drew, Alysha,
Brittany, Courtney, Ryan, Anthony,
Kyle and Darcy. She will be missed
by grandparents Brian and Sharon
Pryce and Hessie Kipfer and a large
extended family. She fought a
courageous battle against cancer and
her infectious smile will be missed
by many. Our condolences to the
Pryce and Kipfer families.
Our sympathies are extended to
Bonnie Jacklin on the loss of her
partner Mike Storozuk. He will be
missed by daughter Amy and step-
children Shawn and Sharie and their
families. Our condolences to all.
Neil McDonald has been here
again to enjoy the hot weather and
the plowing match. He worked
alongside Gwen Devereaux at the
Gateway booth at the IPM.
An example of a small world and
neighbours knowing neighbours
happened at the IPM. An older
gentleman named David Stewart
(86) from Huntsville, and his three
nephews from Ireland arrived to stay
at the Bachert's Bed and Breakfast.
They had looked around for things to
do in Ontario and the IPM piqued
their interest, so they came down.
When visiting with the Bacherts, Mr.
Stewart said he was familiar with the
area because he had lived here in
1952. He was Wilfred Shortreed's
hired man. The Bacherts called
REBECCA KIPFER-PRYCE
A long and courageous battle with
cancer could not dim her infectious
smile. Now that beautiful smile will
live on in the memories of all who
love her, as Rebecca passed away
peacefully at her home, in the loving
embrace of her family on Saturday,
Sept. 23, 2017. Born in Stratford on
Oct. 9, 2007, Rebecca Jenny Lynda
Kipfer-Pryce of Winthrop was nine
years old.
Rebecca was the cherished
daughter of Karen and Dwayne and
adored sister of Drew, Alysha
(Rebecca's second mom), Brittany,
Courtney, Ryan, Anthony, Kyle and
Darcy. Rebecca was the loving
granddaughter of Hessie Kipfer (and
the late David Kipfer, Sept. 16,
2016), RR 1, Varna and Sharon and
Brian Pryce, Winthrop, and the
great-granddaughter of Jenny
Kipfer, Teresa Wynja and Naomi
Pryce. She was the dear niece of
Jenifer Clark (John Rudd), Jeremy
Kipfer, Brad Pryce (Cindy), Brent
Pryce (Catherine) and Theresa Pryce
(Codey Simon). Rebecca will be
fondly remembered by her cousins,
Justin, Josh, Graycee, Gavin,
Jaxson, Kyra, Kelsey, Naomi,
Carson, Russell, Clinton, Bryce,
Blake, Brock and Brody. Rebecca
will also be dearly missed by her
extended family, along with all who
had the privilege of knowing her,
including her special "sisters"
Ashley, Aleshia and Emily.
Rebecca was predeceased by her
great-grandparents, Cecil Kipfer,
Gerrit Wynja, Harold Pryce, and
Nelson and Maxine Marks.
Visitation was held at the Seaforth
and District Community Centre, on
Monday, Sept. 25 and Tuesday, Sept.
26. A funeral service to celebrate
Rebecca's life was held at Northside
United Church, Seaforth, on
Wednesday, Sept. 27 and those who
attended were encouraged to wear
something pink. A reception
followed at the Seaforth and District
Community Centre. Funeral
arrangements were entrusted to
McGlynn Family Funeral Home,
Seaforth.
As expressions of sympathy,
memorial donations to ChildCan or
the TLC Foundation would be
appreciated. Online condolences and
memorial donations can be made by

Margaret Shortreed Mclnroy to
connect the pair. Mr. Stewart met
with Margaret at the IPM at the
Lifestyles tent where she was
working and they had a visit. They
met after the match and she gave
them a tour of the Presbyterian
Church, which he had remembered
being a beautiful church. The year
1952 is before Margaret's birth, just
in case you were wondering, but she
enjoyed the visit with Mr. Stewart
and his nephews. Small world!
