Beef, holstein calves sell steady at sale
Total receipts for Brussels
Livestock for the week ending April
21 were 2,797 cattle and 835 lambs
and goats. On Tuesday fed steers and
heifers sold steady. Choice steers
and heifers sold $157 to $160 with a
high of $190.50. Second cut sold
$154 to $157. Cows sold $3 to $5
higher. On Thursday beef and
holstein calves sold steady with
calves 800 lbs. and over selling
under pressure. Lambs sold higher.
Goats sold steady. Sheep sold
slightly higher. On Friday calves
sold on a strong active trade with
grass calves bringing a premium.
Yearlings sold on a strong active
trade at fully steady prices.
Chris Smith of Brussels,
consigned eight steers that averaged
1,618 lbs. and sold for an average
price of $167.65. One limousin steer
weighed 1,615 lbs. and sold for
$176. Bennett Smith of Brussels,
consigned one limousin steer that
weighed 1,740 lbs. and sold for
$173.50.
Matt and Chris Ferraro of Mount
forest, consigned 10 head that
averaged 1,370 lbs. and sold for an
average price of $171.96. Two blue
heifers averaged 1,315 lbs. and sold
for $190.50. John Richardson of
Harriston, consigned five head that
averaged 1,483 lbs. and sold for an
average price of $158.40. One black
heifer weighed 1,305 lbs. and sold
for $167.
There were 200 cows on offer.
Export types sold $88 to $95 with
sales to $106; beef, $78 to $98 with
sales to $116; D1 and D2, $84 to
$86; D3, $78 to $84; D4, $65 to $78.
Ed Husk of Kincardine, consigned
one red cow that weighed 1,080 lbs.
and sold for $116.
There were seven bulls selling
$103.50 to $138. Scottslea Farms
Ltd. of Blyth, consigned one
charolais bull that weighed 2,190
lbs. and sold for $138.
There were 150 head of veal on
offer. Beef sold $120 to $170 with
sales to $175; good holsteins, $110
to $120 with sales to $126; Si heavy
holsteins, $108 to $115; heavy
holsteins, $100 to $105; medium
holsteins, $95 to $105. Mark M.
Martin of Teeswater, consigned four
heifers that averaged 813 lbs. and
sold for an average price of $157.05.
Two limousin heifers weighed 793
lbs. and sold for $175. Reuben S.
Martin of Wallenstein, consigned
two head that averaged 795 lbs. and
sold for an average price of $145.89.
One gold steer weighed 755 lbs. and
sold for $169. Kevin Ross of
Palmerston, consigned four holstein
steers that averaged 848 lbs. and sold
for an average price of $113.87. Two
holstein steers averaged 873 lbs. and
sold for $126.
Lambs, 50 - 64 lbs. sold $322 to
$360; 65 - 79 lbs., $313 to $328; 80
- 94 lbs., $320 to $361; 95 - 110lbs.,
$324 to $355 / lb.
Sheep sold $132 to $220 / lb.
Goats: kids sold $200 to $417;
nannies, $75 to $140; billies, $150 to
$300 / lb.
Top quality stocker steers, 400 -
499 lbs. sold $226 to $253; 500 - 599
lbs., $205 to $245; 600 - 699 lbs.,
$200 to $240; 700 - 799 lbs., $186 to
$205; 800 - 899 lbs., $176 to $193;
900 - 999 lbs., $164 to $179; 1,000
lbs. and over, $159 to $170.
Top quality stocker heifers, 400 -
499 lbs. sold $186 to $216; 500 - 599
lbs., $179 to $197; 600 - 699 lbs.,
$170 to $205; 700 - 799 lbs., $166 to
$185; 800 - 899 lbs., $153 to $177;
900 lbs. and over, $153 to $164.

consigned 79 head. Thirty-three
heifers averaged 769 lbs. and sold
for an average price of $172.03.
Sixteen charolais heifers averaged
765 lbs. and sold for an average
