Majestic WI members to attend ACWW conference Prior to the annual meeting of the Majestic Women's Institute, the members enjoyed a delicious meal at the Walton Inn on April 12. Yvonne Knight opened the meeting with a couple of poems followed by the Institute Ode and the Mary Stewart Collect. The minutes of the March meeting were read by secretary Leona Armstrong, followed by correspondence. An invitation was extended by the Howick Women's Institute to attend a paint party at the Gorrie Hall on May 11, 6:30 - 9 p.m. For tickets call 519-335-6529. April 30 is the Associated Getting better every day The Blyth Brussels Minor Hockey Association (BBMHA) held its annual awards banquet at the Brussels, Morris and Grey Community Centre last week. Mason Weber, top left, received recognition of his performance at the Silver Stick tournament earlier this year and was named to a select team as a result of it. Presenting Weber with his certificate and medal is coach Jerry Zwep. The Tom Schauber Memorial Award shines a spotlight on the most improved Atom players in the BBMHA. Payment can be made by mail or directly at the Municipal Office, 41342 Morris Rd., PO Box 310, Brussels, ON NOG 1H0. For your convenience, a drop box is available at the front door for after hours use. Payments can also be made at most banking institutions and by telephone and internet banking. Failure to receive your property tax bill does not in any way exempt you from payment. Yvonne Knight and Bonnie Lindsay offered to take lunch. Members were pleased to learn that Yvonne Knight and Lucy Hess are planning to attend the book launch at the ACWW area conference in June at Pembroke, Ontario. Kathy Bridge distributed the April newsletter. It was voted to leave the membership dues the same as last year. In the absence of treasurer Marie McCutcheon, the treasurer's report was read. The roll call was answered by 10 members paying their membership dues and reporting their volunteer hours for the year. Kathy Bridge reminded members of the mystery trip next month that she and Lucy Hesse have planned. There will be a quiz for members on their knowledge of Canada. After a discussion on the fire victim by-law it was decided that the group donate to any house fire within 16 kilometres of Brussels, where the residents were forced from their home. Kathy Bridge gave a report on the Canada 150th quilt project. Happy birthday was sung to Edna Pletch and a pot of daffodils were presented to her for looking after the Sunshine Sister list and calling members to remind them about the meetings. The minutes of the annual meeting, April 2016 were read and Ruth Bauer gave the report of the nominating committee. Helen Craig from the Walton Women's Institute gave a short talk and installed the officers for 2017/2018 as follows: Past -President and District Director, Ruth Bauer; President and Alternate District Director, Yvonne Knight; Vice -President, Public Relations Officer, Tweedsmuir and Advocacy, Kathy Bridge; Secretary and ROSE Co-ordinator, Leona Armstrong; Treasurer, Janet Haertel; Pianist, Marie McCutcheon; Nominating Committee, Ruth Bauer and Yvonne Knight; Financial Examiners, Bev Craddock and Bonnie Lindsay and Sunshine, Coins for Friendship and Telephone, Edna Pletch. Leona Armstrong thanked Helen Craig and presented her with a pot of daffodils. The financial examiners, Bev Craddock and Bonnie Lindsay, gave their report noting the books were examined and found correct. Edna Pletch gave the Coins for Friendship Fund and Sunshine Fund Report. Kathy Bridge gave the Tweedsmuir Report. Edna Pletch thanked the members for the daffodils and Kathy Bridge adjourned the meeting.
