Happy Easter to all! It was a
beautiful Good Friday weather-wise
to enjoy. Saturday started off a little
damp, but sure improved as the day
went on. It was a beautiful day to be
working in the flowerbeds. Outside
work is easy to do in the beautiful
sunshine. Sunday and Monday were
a little breezy and cool, but if you
dressed accordingly, not too bad.
Lots of lawn work and gardening.
Yes it is spring!
Congratulations to Ron Clarkson
as he again became a grandpa. His
son Matt and wife Amanda have
welcomed a beautiful little girl to
their family. She is named Quinn
and is welcomed home by River and
Penny. Ron and Cora made the trip
to Shelbourne to meet the newest
addition last week.
We can report that Val Gratto is
now in Wingham Hospital following
her hip surgery. She is doing well
and is having her rehab and hopes to
be home soon.
Everywhere you go people are
talking about how property is selling
quite quickly. Even in the village of
Walton! There have been two homes
sold this week and we can hope the
new owners have time to spruce
them up before the International
Plowing Match (IPM) comes to
Walton. We hope everyone has plans
to do some improvements or
beautification for the IPM. There is a
form you can pick up and enter your
property for a prize. You can also go
online and find the information.
Let's all do our best to showcase our
area to the thousands that will be
coming to the IPM.
Returning from a month away in
Alberta are Lorne and Bonnie
Glanville. They had been in
Edmonton at the home of their son,
Paul and family. They drove out this
time and were there helping out now
that Paul is home from hospital. Paul
is still recovering from a very
serious motor accident that
happened before Christmas. He is
home building his strength before
more surgery in the future. It is so
much nicer to be out of hospital and
to be surrounded by family. We hope
he continues to improve and it is
nice to see Lorne and Bonnie home
again.
The members of the Brussels
Majestic Women's Institute held
their annual meeting at the Walton
Inn last week. The 10 ladies enjoyed
a delicious meal before the business
and installation of officers. Helen
Craig duly installed the
ladies in the positions
they will hold for the next
year.
This time of year has so
many sports to choose from
to watch, we are channel
changing all the time. The
hockey playoffs have had
some great games to watch.
We have Ottawa fans and
Maple Leaf fans in our
family. Daughter LeeAnn
and Craig went to Ottawa

Industrial severance debated
By Shawn Loughlin
The Citizen
Huron County Council has passed a severance
application in Seaforth that had proven complicated
at the lower -tier level.
At council's April 12 committee of the whole
meeting, Huron East Mayor Bernie MacLellan
vacated his position as chair of the meeting in order
to address the issue, which had originated at his
lower -tier council several months earlier.
Kenn Hines, the owner of Design Concrete in
Seaforth, is hoping to buy his business's adjacent lot
in order to expand and use the lot for storage and
loading purposes. Of concern, however, was the
municipal laneway that had formerly been
used to access the Seaforth landfill. Whether or
not it was an actual road allowance was up
for discussion.
County Planner Sandra Weber said that a number
of issues remain between the applicant and the owner
of the adjacent lot, J.G. Wilson and H.M. Wilson,
which Hines plans to buy. In addition, the nearby
Seaforth Bridges community is objecting to the
expansion of the business.
One of the requests was that a sound study be
conducted to understand the impact expansion of
the business might have on existing Bridges
residents.
Hines's lawyer, however,
said that because the
subdivision was constructed
after Design Concrete began
operating, the study would
have to examine noise that
might be created by the
expansion, rather than the
entirety of the business, which
was pre-existing.
MacLellan spoke in favour
of the severance saying that
this was simply a case of an
established business in

In good company
The Luke Anderson Memorial Award is presented to the most
dedicated Blyth Brussels Minor Hockey Association (BBMHA) Novice
players. At the BBMHA's annual year-end banquet and awards
ceremony last week, the award was presented to Luke Fischer and

game on the weekend to see a
fantastic game that Ottawa won in
overtime. The Saturday night Leaf
game was just as exciting and again
overtime was needed. Curling was
also the choice to watch for us
during the weekend. Raptor fans and
Blue Jay fans, oh decisions,
decisions. Baseball on the
radio, hockey on TV and
good thing for remote
controls and recall!
