Co-ops develop project

were shocked at how much the
project would cost, Grubb said that
the co-ops are also tying their future
to this plan, investing millions to
ensure it's a success.
This project comes as a response
to the South West Integrated Fibre
Technology (SWIFT) initiative in
which many of the local internet
providers felt they would be muscled
out by larger providers that had
previously turned their backs on
rural Ontario.
Huron East Mayor Bernie
MacLellan said he had no idea that
the county was looking at this kind
of investment. However, several
other councillors said that in today's
day and age, building internet
infrastructure needs to be viewed as
essential as building roads and
bridges.
Grubb said that he and his fellow
providers want to be able to improve
the service they give to all Huron
County residents, but they can't do it
alone.
"Every day we get phone calls.
I'm sick of phone calls. We want to
make this investment, but we need
help," he said.
Grubb said that the local co-ops
would like to file a CTI application,
but in order to do so they would need
a financial commitment from the
EDWARD GEORGE WATSON
Edward Watson died peacefully at
Huronview, Clinton with his wife
Joan of 60 years by his side on
March 21, 2017. He was in his 87th
year.
Edward was born on Dec. 8, 1930.
He was raised in Blyth and enjoyed
life in the rural community. After
high school, Edward became an
Aggie' at the Ontario Agricultural
College in Guelph and upon
graduation, returned home to
become a third -generation drover
and to marry Joan. He took over the
family business in 1966 and together
he and Joan expanded it in 1973.
Many wonderful memories were
created over the years when Edward
and his friends travelled west to buy
cattle for local farmers — and for
himself. He proudly fed western
calves and later raised Limousin and
Herefords on his farm at the edge of
town. Sharing his father's passion
for horses and horse racing, he had
much success with his pacers Smart
Viking and JD's Dixie. He was most
happy at farm and livestock auction
sales and his barn housed many of
his great buys throughout the
years.
Edward is survived by his beloved
wife Joan and their five children
John (Kim), Blyth; Kim (Paul
Orrick), London; Jayne Ritchie
(Mel), Lucknow; Jeff, Mississauga
and Lisa, Toronto; his seven
grandchildren and two great-
grandchildren. He is also survived
by his sister Wilma Gummow and
brother Jack (Jean) and countless
nieces and nephews.
The family is grateful to the staff
of Huronview Home for the Aged
for their five years of care and
compassion.

county and a letter of support from
local municipalities.
Bluewater Mayor Tyler Hessel
suggested that council direct staff to
prepare a report on the request.
Chief Administrative Officer
Brenda Orchard said she would be
happy to prepare a report, but that
the application deadline for CTI
made the issue time -sensitive. She
said she would bring the report to
council for its April 5 meeting to
ensure council could make a
decision with enough time for the
local internet providers to file an
application if the county decides on
approving the funding.
