Lions events comin
With spring officially arriving last
Monday folk are looking to getting
out of doors, not just to work in their
yards but to mingle just a little more
in the community without being
concerned with the weather. The e -
Recycling trailer will be at the Co-
op one weekend in April. If you have
items to donate, watch for that date
arranged by the Junior Farmers.
Ron Nesbitt gave me a call to let
all of you know just how busy the
Londesborough Lions are going to
be in the coming weeks with
activities for all of us to enjoy. They
have two activities in April. If you
were wondering just what being a
Lion member entails, you may have
a chance to find out on April 6 when
the members are encouraged to
'invite a buddy' to their regular
meeting. The group will be hosting
one of their 'Olde Tyme Breakfasts'
on Sunday, April 23.
The club will celebrate the 40th
anniversary of their formation with a
free barbeque and open house on
May 6. Ron hinted at a number of
activities you will want to check out
that day and I will give more details
as the day gets closer. The week
after that the club will host its annual
fish fry. Tickets for that meal go
quickly and are on sale now so call a
Lion member soon. While you are
speaking to a Lion member you
might want to suggest they save you
a 'duck' for their annual duck race.
The ducks will swim on Sunday,
May 28.
Another annual event that takes
place the evening of April 23 is
Songfest at the United Church.
Well need to keep an eye on our
calendars in coming weeks so as not
to miss anything.
There are no tenants currently in
the Londesborough United Church
manse. Trustees have decided to sell
the contents in the house - washer,
dryer, two fridges, stove, freezer, a
dining table, a desk and an outdoor
set of two chairs and a small table.
The trustees will sell the items based
on submitted sealed bids. If you
would like to see the items, get more
info and/or make a bid, contact Bob
Trick.

Rev. Fletcher extinguished the
third candle in the Lenten wreath as
the Christian faith advances to
Easter. The senior choir sang an
Easter conversation style hymn,
"Said Judas to Mary".
During the children's time at the
front, Erica Baxter, on behalf of the
Outreach Committee, thanked the
children and the congregation for
their support of the "Fill a Stable"
project. The $1,200 to support this
effort in Bangladesh has been
surpassed. The extra monies donated
will purchase three seed packages to
aid in agricultural endeavours.
The theme of the March 19 service
was Christ's encounter with the
Samaritan woman at Jacob's well.
Terry and the children had a
discussion about the luxury of
having access to fresh and plentiful
water. Canadians are lucky but there
are areas of the world where access
to water is difficult. Terry reminded
the children to pray for a time when
all the peoples of the world have
abundant clean water.
"Living Water" was the title of
Rev. Fletcher's message to the adults
that morning. The supporting
scripture passage was John 4: 3-42,
the familiar story of Jesus and the
woman at the well. The responsive
Psalm was Psalm 95.
Terry remarked that the scripture
reading was long, but justified by his
feeling that sometimes we need to
hear/know the whole story. Jesus
had chosen to return to Judea
through Samaria. Samaritans and
Jews did not recognize each other
and this trip was shorter but through
hostile territory. However, Christ
had plans. He met the woman at the
well while the disciples were in the
village buying food. He offered her
the gift of living water while making
it clear He was the Messiah.
Faith is the meeting of human
spirits with the spirit of God. The
woman ran to the village to tell
everyone of Christ's presence and
they came to be taught by Him. This
is the well known part of the event.
The rest of the story was truly the
real reason for Christ's encounter.
The disciples were astounded to
learn Jesus had spoken to the
Samaritan woman, having failed to
recognize the opportunity to convert
this country and its people to God.
All persons are equal in God's eyes.
Terry posed the question: Have we,
too, missed opportunities to do
God's work because we were too
wrapped up in life? Congregants
were encouraged to pay more
attention to everything around them
and to be ready to receive the living
water.
Next Sunday, March 26,
Londesborough United Church will
observe the Sacrament of Holy
Communion.
The official board will hold a
regular meeting on March 28
beginning at 7:30 p.m.
