A NOTE FROM BETTY
The big winner
Earlier this year The Citizen hosted its first annual Photo of
the Day contest. Every photo of the day from 2016 was
taken and the field narrowed down to one great photo per
month. Then readers were asked which photo they liked
best. The final winner is shown above, a photo taken by
Jane McCutcheon last May. Jane will receive a prize
package worth more than $50. (File photo)
At the Branch
Branch hosts darts
It was a busy weekend at the
Branch with darts, cards and
dancing. The Thursday night darts
started it off with nine darters
present for the evening. The first -
place team was Sheron Stadelmann
and Jim Brown and second place
was Gord Jacklin and Penny
Reynolds. The high shot of the night
for the ladies was by Penny hitting
128 and for the men Jim hitting 125.
The Huron County Men's Dart
League had its day of play at the
Branch on Saturday. The normal
crowd of about 50 men had a good
day.
The Saturday afternoon euchre
had 15 tables of players out on the
sunny day. The high score of 77

points won first prize for Clem and
Cathy. On their heels with 76 points
for second prize were Louise
Hammond and Mary McIntosh.
Close behind with 74 points was
third place team Dianne and Betty.
Winning 11 lone hands and the prize
were Earl and Jean Foster and the
low score of 42 points earned a prize
for Hazel McGonigle and Fay
Dalrymple. Euchre is every two
weeks.
The Sunday night dance had a
small crowd due to the uncertainity
of the weather. There were 50 people
who arrived to enjoy the music of the
Tri -Country Band. There was a little
change in the timing during the
evening and the dance finished at
10:30 to get everyone home a little
earlier in the winter weather. The
new format will continue until better
weather arrives. Sharon Robbins is
our new girl at the door for
the winter and we thank her
for helping out.

All around us the media is full of
Donald Trump stories. It really gets
quite tiring to listen to this man
flaunt himself, all the while the
history, morality and integrity of
their country is called into question.
Sometimes I wish we didn't know as
much as we do, especially when
there is little way to respond and so
we just sigh and wonder.
Winter is one of the seasons that
brings very clear opinions - hate it,
love it or tolerate it. The negative
crew cope, with a visit to a warmer
climate and come back ready to take
it on. So, safe trip as several
community members come and go
as their schedules dictate. Enjoy
wherever you are.

A school day off on a Thursday
last week was a nice surprise,
letting the grandparents in on the
lives of the young set. It's so
refreshing to have them around, they
see life through a different lens and
it's good for us to appreciate the
view. I always enjoy the look of
surprise when they tell you about a
certain singer and you can start
the song. I won with Lady Gaga
last week, so really enjoyed the
Super Bowl showcasing her artistic
abilities. Yes, the ages need to
talk.
Use these winter days to catch up
on your visiting, sorting and reading.
Take care of yourself as the "bugs"
of winter swirl. Wash your hands
often.
Stay home if you're sick, drink
lots and eat your vegetables.
Bye now, Betty G.W.
