We have made it through the
month of January and are a month
closer to spring! Skunks are thinking
the same or are maybe confused
because of the milder temperatures,
because they are out. A dead skunk
on the road is not an uncommon
sight right now.
We are pleased to report that Ken
Shortreed is doing very well at
home. We hope he continues with
his progress and keeps improving.
We are happy to hear Irene Blake
is home and we hope she is
improving.
Unfortunately, Maryann Bone has
had to have surgery on her wrist after
all. She will be a while recovering
but we wish her well.
Our condolences to the Wheeler
family on the passing of Lloyd
Wheeler. He will be missed by his
wife and family.
Returning from a "Spa" week are
Rick and Margaret McInroy. They
went to Calabogie which is
southwest of Renfrew on Calabogie
Lake to a beautiful resort. They
relaxed in the hot tub, pool. lounge
and spent time meeting new people
and reading. They report lots of
snow in the area, but no ice on the
river or lake.
They returned to the area refreshed
and ready for their next adventure.
Four local men went away for a
good weekend of ice fishing. Mike
Boven, Dan Gilbert, Joe Ryan and
Matt Townsend went to Callander
Bay for two nights and two days on
the ice in the hut. There is lots of ice
on the lake - two feet at least - but
not many fish they report. The hut
was cozy and comfortable with
propane heat and lights. Hopefully,
the next time they will have better
luck with the fishing.
The Cranbrook Dart Club
HE committees cause debate
By Shawn Loughlin
The Citizen
After a lengthy debate over Huron
East's committee structure that has
spanned several meetings,
Councillor Ray Chartrand wants
some change.
At council's Jan. 24 meeting,
Chartrand gave notice that he would
be bringing forward a motion to
reconsider aspects of the
municipality's committee
appointment bylaw. The current
method dictates that Mayor Bernie
MacLellan, with input from
councillors, makes the final decision
on which councillor is appointed to
which committee.
Chartrand was a vocal opponent

remain a member of the Vanastra
Recreation Committee, but
MacLellan removed him from the
committee.
Opposition from Chartrand,
members of the committee and other
councillors resulted in Chartrand's
reinstatement on the committee, but
only after several lengthy
discussions.
Chartrand's motion will be up for
consideration at council's Feb. 7
meeting at the Huron East municipal
office in Seaforth. The meeting

Jan. 25. The atmosphere was lively
and cheery from the 21 players,
better than the wet, dreary weather
outside. The winning pair for the
third week in a row was Brad
Speiran and Ern Lewington, winning
all six games. The high shots were
Gayle Speiran hitting 111 and
Murray Houston hitting 140. Lucky
shot was won by Jane Zwep.

Tenders called for
Seaforth Library
Huron East is proceeding to call
for tenders for renovations to the
Seaforth Library with a potential
payment plan in place.
The most recent estimate for the
cost of the entire project was
$253,000 plus tax, which was
presented to council in November.
Chief Administrative Officer Brad
Knight has suggested that the library
renovations would be an ideal
project for the newly -approved wind
turbine vibrancy fund with St.
Columban Wind Energy.
When architect Thor Dingman
first spoke to council about the
project, the high price tag worried
some councillors who suggested
potentially completing the project in
a number of stages in order to spread
the spending.
In his report to council, Knight
said the library renovations could
