Community Centre on Saturday and scored a big 6-2 win over their visitors. The Crusaders
also faced off against the Mitchell Meteors on Sunday, Jan. 22 but couldn't keep their winning
streak alive, being bested by the Meteors 8-2 in Elma Logan. The team will next face off
against the BCH Ice Dogs on Feb. 4 at the Brussels, Morris and Grey Community Centre.

Crusaders made it to the semi-finals
of the International Silver Stick
competition in Michigan over the
weekend.
The team faced a difficult North
Middlesex team in the semi-finals at
the St. Clair Shores arena and were
bested 8-3.
The squad finished first in its
round robin division, posting wins
over the Strathroy Jr. Rockets (5-1)
and the Aylmer Flames (6-3) on
Saturday and started off the
tournament with an 8-0 win over St.
Mary's Rock on Friday, Jan. 20.
Coach Greg Fritz said the team
played well throughout the
tournament, though their semi-final
game was a rough match.
The team remains undefeated in
season play with the regular season
coming to a close.
"We haven't lost in the regular
season, and we tied one of the other
teams in our division once," Fritz
said. "The team has been doing well
and growing the whole time and
that's all you can ask for."
The team has five games before
playoffs begin. On Thursday, Jan. 26

Bantams eliminated
from Silber Stick
The Blyth Brussels Bantam
Crusaders participated in the
International Silver Stick
tournament last weekend in Forest.
The team had a strong showing at
the tournament where all the teams
were tough, fast and competitive.
Each team had to win their local
Silver Stick tournament to earn a
berth at the international event.
The Crusaders had a rough start to
the semi-final game with a 5-1 loss
to the Mariposa Lightning on Friday.
Things turned around on Saturday
as the Crusaders, who were facing
elimination, bested Southwest
Bullets 1-0.
The Crusaders struck early in the
game and scored on the first shift at
29 seconds into the game, providing
a 1-0 lead the team would defend for
39 minutes to earn the win.
The game was tense for the fans
and it was a well-earned victory in
the end for Blyth Brussels.
Unfortunately, the game saw
Carson Heise sidelined with a
broken arm after a tough hit in the
first period.
On Saturday afternoon, the team
faced off against West Grey and
posted a 3-1 to advance to the semi-
finals. Great passing and staying out
of the penalty box were key to the
team's success.
The Silver Stick semi-final was
held early Sunday morning at 8 a.m.
against Flesherton.
The squads had faced off before at
the West Grey tournament
championship game earlier this
season, when Flesherton edged out
the crusaders in overtime.
Flesherton came out strong,
building a 3-0 lead over the
Crusaders in the first period, but the
squad found its legs in the second
and scored three to tie the game. The
third period was scoreless, meaning
the teams would play a sudden
victory overtime period to determine
who would advance to the
championship game.
During the overtime period,
Flesherton and the Crusaders battled
back and forth for over three minutes
of tense hockey until a scramble
resulted in a goal for Flesherton.
Congratulations to Mason Weber
who was honoured by the
tournament committee and named an
All-Star of the tournament. The
honour was unique as, traditionally,
the recipient is picked from the
teams that play in the final game.
This team has proven this year that
they know how to win, the players
are highly competitive, leave it all on
the ice every game and they can
never be counted out, even if they
fall behind.
The team represented the area well
and thanks the Belgrave Kinsmen
and the Brussels Optimists who
stepped up to help support and pay
for the team's entry fee into the
International Silver Stick
tournament. Team representatives
say it was an honour to represent
their community and they felt
honoured to be supported by the
community.
