Last week we enjoyed warm
weather for a day, then stormy
weather for a couple of days, and
then the deep freeze temperatures
and the return of stormy weather
again. What a roller coaster ride we
are on!
We are pleased to report that those
who started 2017 with health issues
are doing better. Jim Lee was in
hospital, out of hospital, back in
hospital and is now home and doing
much better. Joan Jacobs has had a
hip replacement and got on very well
and is dealing with recovery with her
usual sense of humour. Edna Pletch
had a knee replacement and she is
doing well and is back to her place at
Huronlea. Nora Stephenson has had
her second hip replacement and we
hope she comes along as well with
this one as she did her first. Lloyd
Glanville is out of hospital and doing
better. Unfortunately, MaryAnn
Bone suffered a fall and has severely
broken her wrist and is waiting to
see a surgeon and his prognosis. We
hope surgery will not be needed.
There are certainly a lot of colds
and flu going around. I have had
many of my customers reporting
they have had it or family members
have. We have had the cold at our
place. Many of the homes for the
aged are closed down because of
respiratory illness and we hope
everyone will get feeling better.
Our condolences to the
Burkholder family on the passing of
George Burkholder. He was
formerly of Blyth, but had resided in
Cochrane for several years. He was
here and went into Wingham
Hospital. He will be missed by his
family, Bill, Kathy and Rob and their
families. Our sympathies to all.
A correction to the report on the
wedding of Trisha McClure. Trisha
married Scott McLellan (not
McLean) and Amanda McClure
accompanied little Aubrey McClure
down the aisle. Amy McClure was
the bridesmaid. I will blame my
hearing or my notes!
Winner
Myah Vingerhoeds won the Don Pullen Award through Huron County 4-H when she achieved
the highest overall score in the county. Vingerhoeds achieved 963 out of a possible 1,000
points. Pullen was on hand to present Vingerhoeds with her award. (Photo submitted)

diagnosed with dementia. "This is a
cause that's close to my heart and
I'm proud to lend my support to the
campaign. We need to get over our
uneasiness about dementia and start
to recognize and talk about it more
openly. Research is a top priority if
we're to find a cure for people like
my stepdad. And, we need to turn
research into better resources for
caregivers like my mom," says
Dreger, who lives in Toronto.
You, too, can be #InItForAlz and
make a difference right from your
computer. Visit alzheimer.ca

Darren and his family, read the
personal stories of other Canadians
impacted by dementia, and donate to
support research. You can also use
the hashtag #InItForAlz to spread
the word that "it's not just their
disease. It's ours too."

Henk and Aggie Ten Pas have
returned from an enjoyable trip to
B.C. to enjoy Christmas with
daughter Linda and Kirk. They flew
from Hamilton this time with
landing destination in Abbottsford.
They had two weeks to spend with
Linda in Chilliwack. They enjoyed a
wonderful Christmas dinner with
them including Linda's friend Brent.
Brent took Henk for a tour of the
maximum security prison, Kent at
Agassiz, where he works, and Henk
found it very interesting. The prison
holds 450 but has only 255 inmates
at this time. He learned about going
through the security checks, how
small the cells really are and how
their days are spent. Brent also took
him through a multi -million -dollar
home being built in the area and
Henk was very impressed. Linda is a
warden's assistant at the prison.
They spent New Year's Eve at a
family cottage and Linda made the
traditional Dutch Oliebollen for
everyone. They returned home to
less than great weather but are glad
to be home. Peanut, their little dog,
stayed at sister Clara's, and was
really happy to see Aggie home
again! Welcome back.
The Winthrop Walton ladies
gathered for a small get-together for
January. Just Karen Braecker,
Yolanda Gubelman and Jennifer
Vellinga were able to attend on
Monday morning. They had a very
nice visit with one another to catch
up Christmas and New Year's news.
Celebrating birthdays this past
week include Marie Blake, Caleb
Ringgenberg, Logan Terpstra, Laura
Dawson, Evelyn Blake, Stewart
Steiss, Marjory Fraser, Luke Fritz,
