The Citizen, 2017-01-12, Page 6PAGE 6. THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, JANUARY 12, 2017. Chapel names 2017 the 'Year of Hope' PEOPLE AROUND AUBURN By Mark Royal) Call 519-441-2223 The way our winter has been going this year it was bound to happen, we had to cancel the Sunday service at Huron Chapel in Auburn due to road closures and blowing snow. I could not get out of town to get to our church. My neighbour Kent even had my laneway blown out for me ready to go, which I much appreciated. I thought I should not waste his good deed, so I attended the Living Water Christian Fellowship service in Blyth, which remained open for those locally in town. Looking on the positive side, I am now ahead of the game for next Sunday because I will use the sermon I had ready for last week's cancelled service. The message will be on hope and I can tell you this, it will involve lasagna as well as tomato soup and a grilled cheese sandwich. We have declared this the 'Year Of Hope' at Huron Chapel. We are beginning this year by going after two of the biggest issues that give people reason to lose hope and cause havoc in their life, especially in their marriages. I am talking about sexual purity and debt. Husband and wives often end up in divorce court with one or both of these issues playing a large part in the downfall of their marriage. Healthy, strong marriages and families are of great value to us at Huron Chapel because they are key to healthy, strong communities and for society as a whole. Of course you don't have to be married to have these two issues to play an adverse impact on your life. We began last Monday at the church with sexual purity and are meeting for five Monday evenings in all beginning at 7 p.m. We are using the Conquer Series as our discipleship curriculum. The Conquer Series provides insights from top Christian leaders who lay out biblical strategies, scientific facts and teach men how to use God's weapons to become conquerors, offering proven principles and practical tools to conquer pornography and find freedom. All men 18 years of age and older are welcome to join the classes. Approximately 30 men from Huron Chapel have already signed up. It is for all men because I believe it #1 And We Still Try Harder Recent circulation figures show The Citizen has the highest circulation in the northern part of Huron County, #3 in the entire county. The Citizen Proudly Community -Owned Since 1985 is a battle for all men. A reliable study has shown that 68 per cent of men in church are actively viewing pornography on a consistent basis. Men are signing up because even if they don't battle in this area, they want to be better equipped to help their sons and grandsons and friends who may or who are struggling. Then, in February we are offering a nine week course helping people tackle and get free from debt. Last Friday evening we had a fun night at Huron Chapel which was well, fun. Kids went sledding down the church hill, we had a campfire and some real cool fireworks. Auburn residents may have seen the fireworks or at least heard them. Afterwards all went inside to play games, eat hot dogs and drink some hot chocolate. FROM AUBURN . HOUSE ON FIRE? YOU Run,JUmP. The Clinton team, shown above playing against Thamesview in the semi- finals of the tournament, was undefeated throughout the tournament, taking home the trophy for the tournament. Clinton beat Thamesview 5-1 then went on to best Blyth 2-1 for the gold medal win.
