first team from the village to win its
annual tournament since the Richie's
Rockets team from nearly four
decades earlier did so.
The team beat the Belmore
Stingers in the tournament's A -A
final by a score of 3-0 to secure the
tournament victory.
An ambitious project that will see
an L-shaped barn relocated from a
Grey Ward farm to Brussels was
given the go-ahead by the Huron
County Planning Department.
The barn is expected to be home to
the Brussels Farmers' Market year-
round, while also hosting events like
weddings.
Patti Blake was crowned Brussels
Ambassador for the upcoming
Brussels Fall Fair. Blake upstaged
four competitors to win the crown,
which was handed to her by Tiffany
Deitner, the 2015/2016 Ambassador.
Morris-Turnberry hosted the
annual Huron County Plowing
Match and proved to be an excellent
host. At the match, Marion
Studhalter and Irelyn St. Onge won
the Queen of the Furrow and
Princess crowns, respectively.
The Walton TransCan was a
success once again, with fans and
racers enduring vicious storms that
at times threatened the event. It
persisted, however, and was another
highlight for the raceway in its
storied history.
Brian McGavin returned to Walton
triumphant after being named
Canada's reserve plow champion.
His performance at the Canadian
Plowing Match near Ottawa
cemented his status as one of the
country's best, despite having to
battle through an injury.
A film crew from Toronto was
hard at work in Belgrave at the
former home of Blyth Festival co-
founders James Roy and Anne
Chislett and then Ted Johns and
Janet Amos. They were creating a
film of popular Canadian play The
Drawer Boy, which had its roots
with the Blyth Festival.
They spent several weeks filming
at the farm, even detouring to the
Goderich Township farm of the
Lobb family to film one of the play's
most famous scenes, featuring a
young Miles Potter working on a
farm for a day.
Blyth Cowbell Brewing Company
announced that its second beer, Doc
Perdue's Bobcat, named after a 19th
century veterinarian and his pet in
Blyth, would be released in the fall.
Several locals including Julie
Sawchuk and Jessica Morrison were
featured in a special pin-up calendar

project that would benefit the Huron
Women's Shelter.
Several locals were hard at work
behind the camera as well, as Blyth -
based photographer Heather Dietz
photographed many of the models,
while Erin Bolger of Brussels was
charged with makeup artist duties
for all of the photo shoots.
The Erie Otters defeated the
London Knights in an exhibition
Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
game held at the Central Huron
Community Complex. The Otters
were victorious by a score of 5-2.
The game, however, was deemed a
success far beyond the result on the
ice as thousands of hockey fans went
home happy.
The Halo Project, a study
conducted by Ryerson University,
deemed that Huron Chapel's
economic impact on the Auburn
community, if measured in dollars,
would be nearly $2 million for the
year.
Long-awaited renovations to
Memorial Hall, home of the Blyth
Festival, began with the removal of
the tree in the hall's courtyard,
which had long been home to the
village's annual Lighting of the
Lights ceremony.
Blyth became one of 150
Canadian communities selected to
receive one of the Canadian Garden
Council's 150th celebration gardens
comprised of 1,000 red and white
tulip bulbs.
The Friends of the Village Garden
Group in Blyth planned to plant
