"IND JU HY PRESENTMENT I
We, the Grand Jurors of Our
Soverign Lady the teen, beg leave to
present as follows:
That we have carefully considered
and disposed.of the CaSt placed before
us in accordance Writ the instructions
received from your Lordship.
We beg to tender oer cradle' thanks
to your Lordship fur the very clear
and lucid address gi‘,n u r.garding
our duties.
We would also expresa our ap•creci-
ation of the courteiy and assistance
given us by the Crown. Council in
matter' placed before us.
AVe have visited the gad and find
tate genie in a satisfactary condition,
very clean and comfortable, we tind
eleven prisoners confined therein, viz:
one woman zind five men -for vagrancy;
three men for insanity; one man for
criminal indecency and one item for
theft.
It is with pleasure that we note the
fact that the County has aearly com-
pleted a suitable house for the indigent
poor who have hitherto been confined
in the jail, and in doing so we desire
ta commend the charitable sentiment
displayed in this matter by the people
of this young County, and to cxpress
our pleasure that in this as in other
thiags we are taking our place among
the foremost Counties of our fair
Prov ince.
2We teg to recommend that the
attention of our people and the county
officials should be directed to a matter
that is now being agitated, that of
pros iding separate accommodation for
criminals committed for first (strew.
We do rot recomtuend separate
building', but separate classification
and accommodation, within the sarne
building,- somewhat on the satue
principal, and after the uinde of the
English prisons, for cellular imprison-
ment, as we firmly betels e that such a
change would pre.ent many Ruch, from
becoming confirmed criminals by as-
sociation with those oder crime.
