Challenge stretched the mental strength of Warden, CAO
Three days out of the
food comfort zone

Huron CountyWarden George Robert-
son gained a heightened sense of smell
during three days of restricted eating.
So much so, he could smell the aromas
coming from the kitchens of homes passed
by while walking his dog.
Robertson and Brenda Orchard, county CAO,
accepted a challenge from Janice Dunbar of the
Huron Against Poverty Group. For three days, they
ate food bank -style rations that brought them well
out of their food comfort zone.
Robertson and Orchard said they found the
challenge difficult but they also discovered a new
appreciation for those who rely on food banks.
"What a challenge," Orchard said at the Wed.
Nov 6 county council meeting.
The CAO initially thought she would miss
drinking Pepsi. But the admitted cola fan, who has
drastically cut back on pop consumption since the
challenge, found it was a shortage of choice that
made life difficult.
Lack of fresh vegetables, sodium content from
mainly processed foods and a lack of meat, save
for cans of tuna, were also troubling, she said.
"I probably got my year's sodium allotment in
three days."
Orchard has a new appreciation of what types
of food she will donate to food banks in the future.
For a county on the forefront of agriculture
production, there should be more available at food
banks, she suggested.
Dunbar dropped off bags of food for the partici-
pants last month, which were void of milk, juice,
cheese, coffee and fresh fruit.
Huron County food banks serve 1,500 people
each month.
Robertson agreed that a lack of selection made
the challenge tough.

the taste of toothpaste:'

Fire agreement
for North Huron,
Central Huron
Central Huron has approved a five
year contract proposal from North
Huron to have the Fire Department of
North Huron (FDNH) provide fire and
rescue services to residents and busi-
nesses in Central Huron.
The new agreement will take effect on
Jan. 1, 2014.
"This long term agreement will help
us complete the five-year rebuild plan
initiated in 2010 and in 2015 we'll start to
see savings that will be shared with our
municipal partners as we move to a sus-
taining -oriented budget," said North
Huron Reeve Neil Vincent. "I know our
44 FDNH firefighters look forward to
continuing to provide fire and rescue
services to Central Huron for many years
to come."
"The Municipality of Central Huron is
very pleased to enter into this partner-
ship with the Township of North Huron,"
said Central Huron Mayor Jim Ginn.
"This agreement will provide our resi-
dents with a long term sustainable plan
for fire protection:'

About the CLC
A Community Liaison Committee ("CLC") has been established as a forum to exchange
ideas, share information and provide regular updates regarding construction, installation, use,
operation, maintenance and retirement of the K2 Wind Power Project ("the Project"). The 270
megawatt wind Project received its Renewable Energy Approval in July 2013.
Stantec Consulting Ltd. will coordinate the CLC meeting. All meeting materials (minutes,
presentations, reports, etc.) will be made available for public review on the Project website at
www.K2Wind.ca. The agenda for the meeting will be posted on the Project website at least
one week in advance. The CLC meeting is open to the general public for observation.
