Lucknow UCW meets for Nov.
Nancy Walden
Lucknow UCW
Lucknow UCW Afternoon group met on Nov. 5 in the Church
Parlour for a program on remembrance. Ruth Pritchard wel-
comed twelve members opening with a poem called "Indian
Summer" and another "This is November."
We sang the hymn "Stand Up, Stand Up for Jesus." More read-
ings "Quiet Time" and "The Day the Geese Landed" reflected the
the waning of fall in November.
Nancy Walden brought a new Canada Post domestic rate
stamp honouring the history of The Hastings and Prince Edward
Regiment (1863-2013) - the Hasty Ps - out of Belleville, Peterbor-
ough and Cobourg. Poppies appear on the stamp and bring us
back to Remembrance Day and the bravery of those who served
and continue to serve.
She called remembrance also to the 100th anniversary of "The
Great Storm" of Nov. 9, 1913 on Lake Huron showing the playbill
of the excellent "The Great Storm - The Play" presented by The
Goderich Little Theatre last week at The Livery Theatre, and also
reading from David Yates' Goderich Signal Star article of the his-
toric event that touched our local shores and families from Sarnia
to Southampton. A total of 178 seamen and women lost, only 56
bodies (five unknown) reclaimed.
Ruth closed reading poems "Early Snow," and "Young Ones" -
the viewpoint of an aged person, no longer in their own home,
asking to remember them and visit still.
Karen Latour lead business beginning with a prayer on remem-
bering. Roll call was remembering a special time. Helen Cleland
read from the Least Coin with thoughts about reconciliation, ref-
erencing first Corinthians five and living with the paradox of con-
flict and reconciliation. We closed with the UCW Prayer.
We enjoyed continued fellowship over a light lunch prepared
by Karen and Deanna Reavie. Our last meeting of 2013 is a Christ-
mas luncheon and potluck program Nov. 26 at the Church.
Moving forward together, to benefit ACW
K2 Wind is moving toward the start of construction. We've taken steps to develop K2 Wind
in a way that will deliver new benefits to the community. Over the next 20 years, K2 Wind will
provide approximately $15 million to the Township of Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh (ACW),
through the Community Benefits Funds Agreement.
Once the Project is operating, annual payments of approximately $700,000 will be provided
to ACW to fund a wide range of community based initiatives such as:
• education and job training programs
• community and protective services
• public recreation facilities
• land steward initiatives
• energy sustainability projects
