Hundreds of people turned out for the Lucknow Santa Claus Parade on Friday, Nov. 30, 2013. Local businesses and community groups showed their holiday
spirit, decorating floats, marching and riding down Campbell Street. Children lined up to meet Santa himself at the Lucknow Arena afterwards. Hunter Greig, 3
and sister Alexis, 5, were first in line to see Santa.

The 9th Lucknow Regional Juve-
nile Silver Stick Tournament will
take over the village this weekend,
as a gateway invitation for the top
teams to head to this year's interna-
tional event in Mooretown.

Director Bob Gunter said about
300 players and their families will
flood into the community, with 16
teams facing off at the Lucknow
Sports Complex Dec. 5-8, 2013.
"There are lots of Silver Stick
tournaments, but having the Juve-
nile one here is a pretty big deal,"
said Gunter. "Mooretown will not
invite WOAA teams unless they
come through us. We have that
exclusivity and it's one of the layers
that makes us unique."
Games start Thursday at 7:30
p.m. and 9 p.m. Opening ceremo-
nies take place Friday at 7:45 p.m.
with Paul and Eleanor Henderson
acting as this year's ambassadors,
as they have previous years aside
from last year when the event wel-
comed Toronto Maple Leafs
assistant coach Dave Farrish and
his wife Roxanne.
Gunter said the calibre of quality
hockey for the tournament was set
out years ago to prevent it from
being a "goon fest," so players know
skill takes precedent as referees will
have their mouths on the whistle to
make sure the pace of the game
keeps up.
"These boys come out here to
play," he said. "This is no fight
club."
Friday and Saturday games run
all day from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., with
the main events Sunday, with the
semi-finals at 11 a.m and 12:30
p.m., followed by the B Division
Championship at 2 p.m. and C
Division Championship at 4:30
p.m.
Of the 16 teams, B Division fea-
tures four including Walkerton,
Platsville, Belmont and
Schomberg.
C Division's 12 teams are split
into three groups. The first includes
Lucknow, South Bruce, West Grey
and Wingham, the second is com-
prised of Ripley, Milverton, Loyalist
and Bayfield Clinton Hensall
(BCH), and the third is made up of
Drayton, Arthur, Douro and
Honeywood.
The top teams in the C Division
face off against a Wildcard to deter-
mine which of the top three teams
from each division will face off for
the championship.

regional sign-ups up until
