Lucknow Red Tent
Linda Johnston
Red Tent Facilitator
A very special event was held at
the Lucknow Red Tent on Septem-
ber 17th at Grassroots Rural
Retreat, just outside Lucknow.
An open house was held from 4
to 7 pm to allow anyone to come
and experience the ambiance of
our Red Tent. It was a great time of
peaceful personal sharing and vis-
iting. Jessica Morrison was on hand
to do " Henna tattoos" on anyone
who wanted to experience another
ancient tradition that still is prac-
tised in many cultures today. It is
the origination of the phrase "Hen
parties".
At 7 pm we were led in a dance
honouring a World Wide move-
ment that started in 2013 called
"One Billion Rising". It has been
going for 2 years now starting Feb-
ruary 14, 2013. It is a movement
that is bringing attention for the
need to change how women and
girls are treated all over the globe.
There is still so much violence, rape
and oppression. There are "volatile
and impacting connections
between violence against women
and economic, environmental,
racial, gender injustice. Coalitions
are being formed to overcome
these crimes and injustices. There
is nothing more powerful than
global solidarity as it makes all of us
safer in our outspokenness, braver
in what we feel willing to do."
Women are rising up all over the
world with this movement
and dance. Laws have now been

changed and continue to be
changed. There needs to be a radi-
cal shift in global consciousness to
bring this change. Check out the
website for more information and
video of the dance. www.onebil-

Our Guest for the day was Isa-
dora Leidenfrost from Chicago. She
brought along her beautiful tent/
fabric panels to decorate our space
for the event. The atmosphere was
very cozy and intimate. Isadora is a
film maker from Chicago. We were
so fortunate to be able to come to
do the open house, as well as
screen the Documentary film that
she made called "Things we Don't
Talk About...Women's stories from
the Red Tent' ! She facilitates a Red
Tent Circle in Chicago and was

world know and see what it can be
like to be a Sister in one of these
Gatherings. It was a very powerful
and award-winning documentary.
There was a Q&A after the film was
run. We do have our own copy of
the film so if anyone or a group
would like to view it we can arrange
it for you.
Since the film has been made
and screened there have been 500
new Red Tents started. There are
now over 20,000 all over the world.
Please feel free to join us for some
"Sisterhood Time" in our sacred
space at Grassroots Rural Retreat.
Our next gathering is October 23rd
at 7 pm. Please RSVP to Linda John-
ston at johnston@tnt21.com, or if
you want more information on the

hope the Ministry comes forward
with new guidelines soon," Bell said,
adding many people throughout the
district are "deeply concemed" about
the future of their local schools.
An independent consultant, hired
by the board last May to do a long-
term accommodation strategy, pre-
dicted there could be 14 elementary
school closures, two secondary
school closures, one JK -12 and one
grade 7-12 school closure in the next
five years in the two counties. The
Watson and Associates report also
stated of the 18 consolidations, eight
would result in students going to four
new replacement schools, including
two new JK -8 schools, one JK -6 and
one Grade 7-12 school, if the Ministry
approves the business cases and
funding.
Superintendent of business ser-
vices Rob Cummings told trustees the
new guidelines, which are expected
to improve the process by reducing
the amount of time involved, "are
expected shortly".
Depending on when they are
received, there is "a possibility" an
accommodation review process
could still begin in January 2015 and
be complete by the end of the school
year, Cummings explained.
The board has just completed a
lengthy and detailed review of its own
board policies regarding the accom-
modation review process and chair of
the policy committee, Saugeen
Shores and Arran-Elderslie trustee
Kevin Larsen said the Ministry's new
guidelines will be incorporated into
the board's policies before any
reviews would begin.
"It would be disrespectful to the
communities to get started and then
have the guidelines change," Kincar-
dine -area trustee Jan Johnstone
added.
