Lucknow UCW Afternoon Group
met on a gorgeous, sunny October 7,
2014 at River Valley Apartments.
Helen Cleland welcomed 11 mem-
bers for a program celebrating
autumn and Thanksgiving.
Helen and Mary Boyle shared
poems and readings about autumn
and giving thanks at this Thanksgiv-
ing time for the many things we are
grateful for. Mary read I Thessaloni-
ans 5:18. We sang the hymns "Come,
ye thankful people, come" and "Sing
to the Lord of Harvest':
Nancy Walden read a poem she
entered in Lucknow Fall Fair which
cherishes the family farm "...its
health is precarious these days. It
grew a country, still feeds it well, and
is precious in every way." Although
none of the group lives on a farm
now --we are all retired and "of age"-
-almost all of us grew up on the fam-
ily's farm, or married and moved to a
farm. We are thankful for that
heritage.
Helen closed with prayer "...in
humbleness, we thank You, God.. .for
the goodness You have shown...For
the blessings and compassion...
Thank You for the right to worship,
Each in our chosen way. ..May we
grow in understanding, always grate-
ful --thanking You':
Karen Latour opened business
with a timely reading "Purpose in a
Worn-out Body". Roll Call was special
project funds, project to be decided.
Shirley Bolt gave the treasurer's
report. October birthdays are Helen
Cleland's, Jean Macleod's 95th, and
Mary MacGillivray's 100th!

Helen read Least Coin notes on
reconciliation, about Least Coin his-
tory in a 1956 peace mission, and
that in forgiveness, as Christ taught
us, are the beginnings for reconcilia-
tion. We repeated the Prayer of the
Least Coin.
Busy weeks lie ahead with the
Church Fowl Supper on Oct.21 and
the the Church Christmas Bazaar,
Bakesale and Lunch on Sat.Nov.lst.
We decided our November meet-
ing will be a "potluck program" of
everyone's choosing, so that the
Dec.2 annual UCW Christmas dinner
and meeting will be our last meeting
of the year. We closed with the UCW
Prayer.
Fellowship continued with a tasty
lunch prepared by Edna Alton and
Elaine Errington.

VICTIM FALLS FOR COMPUTER REPAIR SCAM
Huron County Ontario
Provincial Police (OPP)
would like to remind Huron
County residents on what
to do if they receive a call
from a computer repair
technician offering to
repair your home com-
puter. This successful scam,
commonly known as the
"Microsoft Scam" has been
around for several years
claiming victims all over
Canada.
Just recently Huron
County OPP spoke with a
Goderich resident that had
fallen victim to this scam.
The 66 year old male
reported he received a
phone call from an
unknown male suggesting
he purchase a computer
program called "Magic
Jack': The victim listened to
the sales pitch and he ulti-
mately purchased the pro-
gram for $338. The victim
was led to believe he was
purchasing a computer disk
clean-up and a virus pro-
tection program. The victim
allowed remote access to
his computer desktop in
order to complete the
transaction. A couple days
later he received a second
call from the purported
computer technician and
this time he was told his
Windows program he was
operating needed to be
repaired. Once again, the
victim allowed remote
access to his computer and
a $500 transaction fee was
paid.
The victim was tricked
into thinking the technician
was repairing his computer
however the scammer was
instead installing scareware
and viruses on the com-
puter. The victim was later
alerted by his credit card
company about the suspi-
cious transactions being
processed by a company in
India. The victim was
directed to unplug his com-
puter and contact police.
If you receive an unsolic-
ited phone call from some-
one offering computer
repair services, simply hang
up the phone. Computer
users are reminded, that
unless you initiate the call,
do not allow anyone access
to your computer. Do not
give out personal, banking
or credit card information
to anyone unless you are
sure of whom you are deal-
ing with. Remember, repu-
table computer companies
do not make cold calls
offering to repair comput-
ers. If you have issues with
your computer take it to a
reputable, local computer
business for repair.
If you would like addi-
tional information about
frauds and scams or if you
have been victimized by a
scam please contact the

tre at 1-888-495-8501 or
