Presenting the award is Paul Boswell, President of the Association. October 7, 2014. Bruce County Public Works Scholarship The Bruce County Public Works Association in 2014 offered a schol- arship, valued at $1,000 to an out- standing student in Bruce County enrolled in a program related to public works. This student must have completed one or more years of post -secondary education in the respective program. Selection is based on a combination of strong academic achievement, a demon- strated interest in public works at a municipal or county level, and leadership potential as evidenced through extracurricular or volun- teer activities. Daniel Sloetjes from Lucknow best met the requirements for the 2014 Public Works Scholarship. Daniel is going into his 3rd year at Georgian College pursuing a diploma in Civil Engineering Tech- nology. His present Academic Average is 81.7 %. He works for a construction company in the sum- mer months doing road, culvert water and sewer construction. Daniel is also a volunteer fire- fighter for Lucknow Fire Department. NEWS High-risk Groups are Priority for Flu Vaccines Huron County Health Unit Until October 23, flu vaccine will only be available to Ontario resi- dents at highest risk of getting the flu and becomingseverely ill. High-risk groups include cate- gories such as: children from 6 months to 5 years of age; individu- als over 65; pregnant women; health care providers; anyone with a chronic medical condition such as cardiac or kidney disease, dia- betes or asthma. "While it is important for every- one to get their flu shot, we really - want those individuals at highest risk of complications and hospital- ization to get the vaccine first," says Public Health Nurse RuthAnn Ogilvie The Huron County Health Unit will hold community clinics for the general public on Wednesday, October 29 from 3:00 to 7:00 pm at the Clinton Legion and Monday, November 3 from 5:00-7:00 pm at Seaforth Public School.
