Bruce Power Employees Raise over
$15,000 for Helmets to Hardhats
Submitted
After the death of two members of Can-
ada's Armed Forces last week, Bruce
Power employees rallied together to raise
over $15,000 in support of our troops, with
more money to be counted.
On Thursday, October 30, 2014 Bruce
Power employees opened their hearts and
wallets to honour the service and memo-
ries of Warrant Officer Patrice Vincent and
Corporal Nathan Cirillo, who were killed
in two separate incidents. The $15,000
raised will go to Helmets to Hardhats
(H2H) Canada, a non-profit organization
which helps Canadian veterans and
reservists transition to civilian life by offer-
ing apprenticeship opportunities in the
building trades.
"I'm proud that Bruce Power's employ-
ees have once again given generously to
an organization that plays such an integral
role in the lives of our veterans and reserv-
ists," said Duncan Hawthorne, President
and CEO of Bruce Power. "Helmets to
Hardhats does important work, providing
apprenticeships to veterans and reservists
who bravely represent our country:'
Gregory Matte, Executive Director of
Helmets to Hardhats, said the program
has helped about 475 Canadian Armed
Forces veterans over the past two years
with their transition into either a skilled
trades apprenticeship or employment
opportunity.
"We are extremely grateful to the
employees of Bruce Power," Matte said.
"This unsolicited act of generous support
to the program is exceptional, and will
most certainly contribute to assisting more
vets and reservists in their transition into a
rewarding new career in the building
trades. We look forward to our first H2H
apprentice working on the Bruce site
