The Lucknow Sentinel, 2014-05-28, Page 66 Lucknow Sentinel • Wednesday, May 28, 2014 Wawanosh 4-H Lifeskills Club Maisy Jefferson Meetings 3 & 4 of the Masterchef Wawanosh club were held on Fri- day May 9th at 5:30pm at the Auburn Hall. Brent Alexander opened the meeting with the pledge. The leaders then, divided the members into their cooking groups in order to get the supper dishes ready for the oven. For sup- per, the members were preparing Cabbage Roll Casserole, Spicy Mar- inated Chicken Pieces, Fully Loaded Muffins, and Shortcut Soup. The groups were to wash their hands, read the recipe and report what each member was going to do to a leader before they began cooking. Once the recipes were in the oven, members worked in pairs to complete a healthy eat- ing quiz. Reba Jefferson led the members in Roll Call which was, "How are mealtimes different now than when your parents ate supper?" Following roll call, Melissa Higgins read the Minutes from the previous meeting. Mary Ellen Foran then handed out the title pages designed by Kate and Loretta Higgins which members are to colour and put in the front of their books. Marita Oudshoorn handed out packaged food items and members completed a nutri- tion label questionnaire. Members then, took a break from their books and played basketball outside. Once the dishes were cooked, members were called inside to prepare the buffet table with their dishes. Just before the members enjoyed their dinner, Cathy Drennan demonstrated the proper way to set a table. While eating, members discussed proper table manners. Next, members washed the dishes and cleaned up in the kitchen. Meet- ing 3 was concluded with the 4-H Motto. Meeting 4 was opened with an introduction on the importance of planning. Reba led Roll Call which was 'Give an example of when you had to plan something: Next the members took turns reading about meal planning from their books. Mem- bers then broke into groups and were given the task of planning meals for Christmas, a backyard barbeque, a camping trip and a birthday party. They were to ensure that they were including 3 or 4 food groups and map out the approximate cost of the meal. The groups then presented their plans to the group. Mary Ellen assigned some 'homework' as members are to complete the 'Supermarket Savvy Quiz' and have it com- pleted for the next meeting. Reba then closed the meeting with the Motto. The next meeting will be held on Friday May 23rd at 7pm at the Auburn Hall. Lucknow 4-H Beef Club Beef BBQ Christine MacIntyre Home Hardware sponsored the Lucknow 4H Beef Club in hosting a Bar B Q on Saturday, May 10th. A beautiful day with lots of support from our local community and busi- nesses resulted in a very suc- cessful Fundraiser. 4H Mem- ber Melissa MacIntyre organized the Bar B Q for the club and is pictured with her bosses from Lucknow Home hardware along with other club members.. The club also appreciates the support from Greens Meat Market and Luc - know Village market with their donations to the day. Lucknow 4-H Sheep Club Graham Findlay The Lucknow 4-H Sheep club first meeting took place at the Lucknow Co-op. We introduced our new leader Kendra McNay, and welcomed our new members, Cody Metske, Zack Walden, Joe & Jack MacDonald, Lauren Todd and Erika Gibson. Papers work was handed out and elections took place for this year's executive. We also organized the BBQ at the Lucknow Co-op, it was very success- ful, and a big thank you to the Lucknow Co-op for your support of our club.
