Grey and Bruce Kick Off the Summer Tourism Season

The north parking lot of the Dav-
idson Recreation Centre in Kincar-
dine was the site of the 2014 Bro-
chure Swap coordinated through
Bruce County Tourism and Grey
County Tourism.
Kim Clarke, a representative for
Bruce County describes this event
as a "gathering of local business
tourism operators and tourism
groups to network and swap their
brochures. It kicks off the tourism
season for the year."
Clarke commented that it was a
good day for this event as it was
wonderful weather and the turnout
was as good as they had expected.
Over 70 businesses and operations
were in attendance.
This is the twelfth year for the
Brochure Swap. It brings together
people in the tourism segment that
may not otherwise have the chance
to meet and find out about each
other and what they offer due to
the diversity of services and the
vast geographical area covered.
During the two-hour event there
are two representatives from each
registrant. One stays with the vehi-
cle to answer questions and give

out information, while the other

batch lots of brochures for the sea-
son to be displayed at the premises
of the various venues. In this way,
tourism operators and groups
promote each other across the
two counties while saving on
postage to provide valuable
information to visitors who are

Tobermory on the Bruce Peninsula
and down the coastline of Lake
Huron through Port Elgin, Kincar-
dine to the southern border with
Lucknow and across the counties
to take in Ripley, Walkerton, Dur-
ham, Chatsworth, Collingwood,
along Georgian Bay, Meaford to
Blue Mountain.
Many niche
tours were dis-
tributing their
maps and
information
including those
for motorcy-
cling, hiking,
agri-tourism,
art and studio
tours and vari-
ous culinary
trails through-
out both coun-
ties. There were
a variety of
museums, bed
and break-
fasts, camp-
grounds, farm-
ers markets,
wineries, festi-
vals, cottages,
nurseries and
edible garden-
ing, antiques, cruises, music festi-
vals, theatres, gift shops and more.
Other services were represented
such as home care for the elderly,
employment services and products
such as outdoor furniture made
from recycled plastic.

cooperatively by Grey County
Tourism and Bruce County Tourism
