Members of the North Huron Fire Department sifted
through the remnants of a barn fire that killed as many as
1,300 pigs at a farm on northeast of Auburn
The farm was located on St. Augustine Line between
Hawkins Road and Nile Road, a few kilometres northeast of
Auburn and along with the excessive death of livestop, the
barn was also heavily damaged, Huron OPP said.
A dollar value of damages is believed to be in excess of
$800,000.
The cause of the fire is not yet known but foul play is not
suspected.
Fire fighters arrived on scene at 7 a.m. Tuesday and crews
were still there until mid-afternoon.
ACW woman victim of fatal
snowmobile crash
Huron County OPP has identified the victim of a March 4,
2014 snowmobile crash as Lori Anne Powell, 29, of Ashfield-
Colborne-Wawanosh Township.
Police responded to a Prosperity Line farm just after 8:30
a.m. after the owner of the property found an overturned
snowmobile on his property. Powell was found beneath the
snow machine without vital signs. She was later pronounced
dead at the scene.
Officers from the OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investiga-
tion (TTCI) Team attended the scene to assist with the off -
trail collision investigation.
The cause of the death has not been determined, but foul
play was not suspected.
A post-mortem examination was scheduled for March 5,
2014 at London Health Sciences Centre.
Daytime stop leads to
drunk driving charges
A 51 -year-old Lucknow man is up on multiple charges
after South Bruce OPP stopped him on Ross St. on March 2.
Police stopped a grey Toyota Corolla at 11:15 a.m. while
on patrol in town.
Police said the officer found the driver had been drinking
alcohol and charged the man with driving over the legal
alchol limit, driving with liquor accessible, failure to wear a
seatbelt, failure to surrender his licence and failure to pro-
vide proof of insurance.
He is scheduled to appear in court on April 14, 2014 to
answer to the charges.
