Huron county opp using citizen
self reporting system
Ontario Provincial Police (OPP)
Detachments throughout the Province,
including the Huron County OPP
detachment are now utilizing an online
reporting system that will enable the
public to report specific occurrences
via the internet.Citizen Self Reporting
was launched by the OPP on July 7,
2014 in an effort to improve efficiencies
and expand service delivery to the
public.
The OPP is one of several Ontario
police services which have adopted an
internet-based crime reporting system.
Using the system, specific incidents can
be reported online at your convenience
without attending a detachment or
waiting to see an officer.
Huron County OPP Detachment
Commander Inspector Chris Martin
explains, "The OPP has been very inno-
vative in many areas of policing. The
Citizen Self Reporting System will allow
us to be more efficient with our current
resources and it will also provide a con-
venient and user-friendly alternative to
report crime for our citizens. Our front-
line officers will be able to focus their
efforts on targeted enforcement initia-
tives and crime prevention strategies
within our communities."
To access the system, go to HYPER-
LINK "http://www.opp.ca/
reporting"www.opp.ca/reporting. You
can report crimes such as thefts under
$5,000, damage to property under
$5,000, thefts from vehicles, lost or
missing property. Only occurrences
that do not involve an injury, suspect or
evidence are applicable. All informa-
tion submitted via the Citizen Self
Reporting System is confidential and
secure from hacking and other forms of
electronic intrusion.
If you prefer, you may still contact the
OPP by phone to make your report and
have an officer attend. The 24 hour OPP
toll-free number is 1-888-310-1122
In the event of an emergency DO
NOT use this system. Call 9-1-1 imme-
diately.Of course you never want to be a
victim of a crime; however, if you find
yourself needing to make a report to
police you now have another conveni-
ent option. Further information can be
found at http://www.opp.ca/reporting
