CNSC Open House
in the Township of
Huron -Kinloss: Nuclear Safety
The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) will hold three open -house
events in the Township of Huron -Kinloss, Ontario, to discuss safety and regulatory
matters for the Adaptive Phased Management Approach (APM) — a proposed deep
geologic repository for used nuclear fuel.
Canada's Nuclear Regulator
Dates: August 8, 2014, 7 p.m. -9 p.m
August 9, 2014, 9 a.m.-12 noon and 1 p.m. -3 p.m
Place: Point Clark Community Centre, 344 Lake Range Drive, Point Clark
About the open house
CNSC staff will be on hand to provide information and answer questions about
our regulatory role in relation to the Nuclear Waste Management Organization
(NWMO) Adaptive Phased Management (APM) Approach for used nuclear fuel, not
Ontario Power Generation's Deep Geological Repository (DGR) project for low- and
intermediate -level radioactive waste.
CNSC staff will provide information about the CNSC's regulatory considerations,
including our licensing process, Aboriginal consultation, transportation of nuclear
substances, and opportunities for residents to participate in the public hearing
process. CNSC staff will also answer questions about the federal regulator's early
role in conducting pre -project design reviews of geologic repository concepts. The
CNSC has not yet received a licence application for this repository.
The CNSC regulates the use of nuclear energy and materials to protect the health,
safety and security of Canadians and the environment; to implement Canada's
international commitments on the peaceful use of nuclear energy; and to
disseminate objective scientific, technical and regulatory information to the public.
