Lucknow 4-H Field Crops Maisy Jefferson Meeting 3 of the Lucknow Field Crops club was held on Thursday, June 26, 2014 at 7pm. Members met at leader Rebecca Miller's home. Once all members arrived, Rebecca lead roll call which asked each of the members to share some- thing they had noticed in their project field. Logan Curran then officially opened the meeting with the pledge. Next the club secre- tary, Mitchel Curran, read the previous minutes. Each member was then asked to give a description of the weed they had brought from home and the club worked together to identify it. The club was able to identify a large majority of the weeds but were inconclusive about some of the weeds members had dug up from around their barn or in a pasture field. Once all weeds had been identified, the leaders lead the members into Bergsma's wheat, soybean and corn fields. While in the wheat field, members reviewed their staging knowledge and looked for any leaves with disease. The club moved onto the soybean field where the leaders taught them how to stage soybeans by their leaves and take a field's population. Members were given a chart to use to calculate the population in their own project field. The leaders also demonstrated how to determine the seed- ing depth of the soybean plant. Finally members toured the corn field. The leaders taught the members how to stage corn by count- ing collars and leaves. Mem- bers were given the instruc- tions on how to take the population in a corn field and took the population in a variety of spots as they made their way back to Rebecca's house. Members enjoyed a snack provided by Rebecca and Logan closed the meeting. Submitted Members of the Lucknow 4-H Field Crops club take field trips literally.
